a shoe sale & a fall outfit

Stuart Weitzman ‘Lowland’ boots in black, blue, londra & buff suede.

Over the knee boots seem to be the Goldilocks of shoes for me as I have purchased and returned multiple pairs. I haven’t found a pair that were “just right.” I bought and returned the Stuart Weitzman ‘Hilo’ boots that was an anniversary sale purchase (shown here and here). The shaft on the ‘Hilo’ boots were too high for my shorter legs. I wanted to wear them with a sweater dress recently and felt that they looked less like boots and more like I was wearing suede pants underneath my dress. I folded over the tops of the boots to shorten the length, but it was too Jack Sparrow for me.

Then there was the previous ‘Lowland’ boot purchase saga (read about it here), but it was not meant to be with that pair.

I’m not waving the white flag just yet. Especially when Bloomingdale’s is running a 20% off promotion off 2 or more pairs of shoes purchase. There is no promo code needed and it ends at midnight tonight. The best part is that there are very few brand exclusions and Stuart Weitzman is not excluded! The black and londra (grey) boots are available in all sizes and there are limited sizes available for the blue and buff colors. These boots rarely go on sale and they immediately sell out when they do.

My outfit from last Friday night. We had reservations for an early dinner at a new-to-us restaurant and were very fortunate to catch the magnificent autumnal sunset before and during dinner.

Hope you’re having a fabulous Sunday Funday! xx

TGIF! If the boho-inspired dress looks familiar, I also have it in the neutral combo (worn here). I received both as birthday gifts from my sister. They are both true to size (size XS for reference).

The ankle boots are a recent purchase, which were featured here on the blog. I love these boots, the light cognac color is rich and matches with everything. They are true to size and the comfort level right out of the box is off the charts. These booties will be in heavy rotation.

Have a lovely weekend! xx

As promised, here is my review of the two leopard coats I recently purchased online (discussed here). Since I wanted to wear these coats over a chunky knit sweater or multiple layers, I sized up to a size Small (I’m typical a size XS) for both coats. I feel the sizing is just right for my frame and the winter clothing layers. Although if given the chance, I’d be interested in seeing how the Sanctuary coat fits me in an XS so I can compare it to the fit of the Small.

The Express (top picture) coat has a shorter and shinier pile than the Sanctuary (bottom image) coat. Both are somewhat lightweight yet cozy due to the faux fur. They are lined and have sewn-in pockets. On Instagram, I asked people which coat they liked better (I also wore the same burgundy lace dress for the shorter coat pictures for consistency) and the longer Express coat won. Since I purchased the both coats on mega sale, I have decided to keep the two leopard coats. The Express coat is perfect to wear with cocktail dresses, etc. The Sanctuary coat was meant for casual or edgy outfits. One coat is Duchess Kate, the other Kate Moss. Double rawr for the win.

Do you wear leopard coats? Are you planning to add one? I’d love to hear about it!

Have a great Thursday! xx

I am a fan of leopard print. Always was and always will be. So naturally, a leopard faux fur coat has been on my must-acquire list for years. I’m ready to take the plunge this fall!

The six coats above have made my initial cut (for a range of price points) but I’ve decided to take the first and third faux fur leopard coats for a spin and see which coat I like more.

If you’re on the fence or think I’ve lost my mind with my affinity for leopard, I invite you to take a peek at my Leopard/Animal Prints Pinterest board. I bet you will kill at least five minutes just browsing and hopefully admiring this timeless and chic print.

Have a great Tuesday! xx

shopbop’s MAINEVENT16

It’s Shopbop’s self-proclaimed event of the season where you get 25% off your order if you spend up to $500 or 30% off your purchase if you spend over $500 with promo code MAINEVENT16. There are very few brands that are excluded from the promo (e.g., Canada Goose, Hanky Panky, Kate Spade New York, etc.), so this means that virtually all current season designer items are on sale. Hurry though, all the good stuff is selling out quickly (namely, the ever popular Stuart Weitzman ‘Lowland’ and ‘Highland’ over-the-knee boots) and it ends on October 14 at 11:59 pm PT.

image

My MAINEVENT16 picks incorporate the “tried & true” items, where I have previously purchased, wore and still love and recommend such items. They have all been featured and reviewed on the blog (super easy to find in the search field). The sole exception is the black pair of Current/Elliott ‘Stiletto’ jeans (which I just ordered). I have the Stiletto jeans in blue denim (see them here) and they’re so flattering, I wanted to add a black pair.

Top row, left to right: Bella Freud 1970 sweater in red (also in gold & a black sweater dress); Free People boho dress in neutral (also in red & black); Free People off-the-shoulder top in chambray (also in white & black); Free People racerback bra in black (also in ivory & graphite).

Bottom row, left to right: Current/Elliott ‘Stiletto’ jeans in black; Sorel Joan of Arctic winter boots in Quarry (also in black and elk); Rag & Bone ‘The Dre’ skinny boyfriend jeans in Stoke, Keiko & Bainbridge washes; Rachel Pally one-shoulder maxi dress in black.

Are you planning to shop the MAINEVENT16? If so, please share your new finds! xx

Are you enjoying the autumnal weather this week? Brrrr. I’m glad I stocked up on oversized sweaters for this fall and winter because they are proving to be the most welcome layer for dipping temperatures.

The first image is a partial shot of my outfit which shows off a new necklace from Macy’s. If you’re a Jersey Girl like me, you’re going to love this mini pendant necklace in sterling silver. If you’re not from New Jersey, Macy’s has 43 other states and the U.S. itself. It has 2 stations to clasp it and I like the shorter station since it layers perfectly with longer necklaces.

Have you been breaking out the sweaters lately?

Happy Wednesday to you! xx

Happy Columbus Day to you! This is a follow-up review to my earlier post.

The plaid cardigan coat arrived on Saturday and I am thrilled with this Target find. I first posted about last week when there was a 20% online sale on clothing, accessories and shoes. Thus, I was able to snag this sweater coat for about $60 (with an additional 5% discount using my Target RedCard). I was impressed by this sweater in person, it could easily sell for twice the price at Madewell, Sanctuary or Free People.

The cardigan coat is soft and not itchy at all. The plaid is red, black and camel, so it will match or compliment many colors already in my fall and winter wardrobe. It’s true to size, I ordered a size XS. It hits perfectly for the shoulder seams and sleeve length. There are no closures (no buttons, hooks or zipper), so the fit in the torso doesn’t matter since it will be worn open. You could always belt it with your own belt or fasten it at top using a brooch or pin. The two things I wish for the sweater coat is that it would be lined for added warmth and for pockets. But these are minor wishes, I could easily do without these details and they could have potentially ruined the lines of the cardigan if not done well. I hate when pockets bunch out at the hips when they are not sewn in expertly.

At the $79.99 full price now, it’s still a great buy. However, keep a watchful eye on Target’s website for the next sale on clothing to pick this up if you prefer to wait.

I returned the navy plaid puffer vest and the red plaid puffer vest because they both ran on the snug side. My usual XS size was fine when unzipped, but I felt a little constricted when the vests were fully zipped over a sweatshirt hoodie and a thin tee. That’s not ideal for layering with your sweaters, etc. My recommendation is to order the next size up if you plan to layer the best over a sweater or a button-down shirt over a long-sleeve tee or turtleneck. The cotton material on the vest’s exterior is flannel and I really loved this. I was disappointed that the vests were not made in the USA, as it was described online. Rather, they were made in Vietnam.

Lastly, I’m keeping the houndstooth blanket scarf. It is simply a classic neutral print that will match with all the colors of your wardrobe.

Hope this helps you. Please enjoy the holiday!

fall shoes on sale

image

(clockwise from top left) STEVEN by Steve Madden mules in blue velvet (blue velvet also here); Kenneth Cole booties in legno suede; STEVEN by Steve Madden mules in camel suede; Steve Madden block heel boots in burgundy suede.

There are lots of good sales going on and if you’re in the market for shoes or boots for the fall, Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s have got you covered.

Let’s start with the shoe event at Macy’s, which is pretty epic considering all current season shoes and boots are part of the sale. Promo code GREAT provides an additional 40% discount when you buy at least three pairs of shoes or boots. My three picks were the STEVEN by Steve Madden mules in blue velvet and camel suede and the Steve Madden block heel boots in burgundy suede.

The mules run true to size (I’m wearing size 8 in the blue velvet pair). They are a great dupe of the Gucci slip-on loafers that are hugely popular now, sans the fur trim. I’m still waiting on my camel suede pair. I think they look particularly smart with cropped pants and jeans. The blue velvet is a dark midnight blue and looks quite luxe in person.

The block heel boots are true to size, again I am wearing a size 8. The heel isn’t too high at 3″ and the lining inside is very soft to the touch. The burgundy color is such a rich jewel tone and will provide that welcome injection of color in your neutral outfits.

Bloomingdale’s is currently running their sitewide Friends & Family event, but it ends in a couple of days. Promo code FRIENDS provides an extra 25% discount off your purchase (20% off fine jewelry). I actually stocked up on some basics such as bras during this event, but that’s not fun.

Cognac suede booties are fun, amiright? I was looking for a low-profile, no-heel and nude-colored booties to wear with my Free People boho-style dresses. But nude suede gets dirty and marked up, I think this toasty tone of cognac won’t show dirt as much as a nude pair. The best part is that these Kenneth Cole booties were already on sale before the FRIENDS 25% discount, so hooray for a double-dip of savings! I ordered my usual size 8.

Have you been shopping the Columbus Day sales? Any new shoe purchases you’d like to share?

Enjoy your weekend!
