J.Crew Painter striped tee in ivory vibrant red, vintage plaid bandana (similar) & studded leather belt in navy; Two by Vince Camuto flare jeans; MICHAEL Michael Kors ‘Giovanna’ espadrille wedge sandals in navy leather (old, similar).

It’s finally warming up! Here are a couple of recent outfits. I really like the taupe and grey colors together in the first look.

The second outfit showcases the new plaid bandana from J.Crew. Hopefully they will restock it soon, it sold out in a matter of days–crazy. I copied the loosely tied neckerchief with red striped tee look from their June 2016 style guide. It was easy to style it this way, just treat the neckerchief as you would a statement necklace of sorts. By the way, it’s the same amount of panache, but for a mere fraction of the cost of an actual necklace. Love when that happens!

Happy Wednesday to you! xx

the new review

Happy Monday to you! This is a follow-up to my earlier J.Crew SUMMER/CARDSONLY promo post (read it here). It looks like J.Crew has extended the SUMMER (25% off)/CARDSONLY (30% off with your J.Crew card) promotional event until tonight at 11:59 pm. I received the goods over the weekend and here is my review after trying everything on.

J.Crew candy stripe popover shirt & chino sailor pants in navy; MUK LUKS ‘Valerie’ footbed sandals.

I love both the candy stripe shirt and the navy sailor chinos. However, both items run large, sizing-wise. I ordered a size 0 and size 00 for the pants, and the size 00 fits perfectly while the size 0 was huge. I’m wearing the size 00 in the picture above. I really like the masculine vibe of the chinos. It’s very vintage Katherine Hepburn. Also, there are anchors engraved on the front buttons of the pants–what a cute little detail. For me, the best feature of the pants is that lace-up detail in the back. It’s totally functional where you can tighten or loosen the fit at the waist. It’s such a subdued sexy touch–love it!

I’m wearing a size 0 in the candy stripe popover top. It’s very wide in the torso, so size 0 is too large. I went to the J.Crew store yesterday and exchanged it for a size 00, which fits so much better.

J.Crew candy stripe popover shirt & chino sailor pants in navy; MUK LUKS ‘Valerie’ footbed sandals.

It’s the candy stripe popover again in size 0 (I exchanged it for a size 00, which you can see in the following photo). I’m also wearing the sailor chinos but in white and in a size 00. I did not like the pants in white as much as the navy. The white wasn’t as flattering and it was a little too sheer for my liking (you can see the front pockets). I returned the white sailor chino pants. Fortunately, I have the sailor chino shorts in white (see them here), so I’m set for the summer.

J.Crew candy stripe popover shirt; Caslon cropped chino pants in olive tuscan (old, similar); Stuart Weitzman Alex wedge sandal in coral (old, similar).

Okay, this is the candy stripe popover shirt in size 00! It’s a perfect slouchy fit without the extra volume (I couldn’t do a successful half-tuck with the size 0, way too much fabric). It’s such a happy print, it’s smile-inducing.

J.Crew candy stripe dress; Stuart Weitzman Alex wedge sandal in coral (old, similar).

While at the store for my online purchase returns, I saw this dress. It runs true to size, especially at the top. I tried on the XXS, but it was tight across the chest and around the shoulders when lifting your arms. So, I bought the XS. It has pockets (yay!) and it’s an easy silhouette to wear for those hot and sticky summer days.

image

J.Crew striped t-shirt (old, similar) & striped belt; Madewell skinny fatigue pants in burnished mahogany; Steve Madden ‘Ecentric’ leopard sneakers (old, similar).

I love the new striped belt. It could be a super preppy accessory, but it doesn’t have to be. The collegiate color scheme is pretty cool, I like that it’s not pastels. It looks like I borrowed it from my husband.

By the way, I also loved the two bandanas (gingham and vintage plaid) that I ordered, but sadly they are sold out already.

J.Crew cotton cable crewneck sweater in navy & striped belt; Madewell skinny fatigue pants in burnished mahogany; Steve Madden ‘Ecentric’ leopard sneakers (old, similar).

I found the navy sweater in the clearance racks at the J.Crew store. It was marked 50% off the lowest ticketed price, so I snagged it for $34.99. I also ordered the soft periwinkle color through the store since the price was so good. It seems it’s sold out online, but I’d check your local J.Crew store to see if they could order the sweater for you. It runs large, I bought the XXS. As you can see from the dressing room pic, it’s cropped. I plan to wear it with my high-waisted shorts, jeans, etc.

j.crew’s June styles & my 30% off sale picks

I was really excited when I received the June 2016 J.Crew style guide in the mail last week, there were a number of pretty things that piqued my interest. Most of them were accessories, but there were a few clothing items that made it into my online shopping bag. Then I waited for a sale promo. It starts today! Promo code SUMMER provides an additional 25% off of select full-price and sale items. But promo code CARDSONLY and purchase with your J.Crew card will get you an extra 30% discount on select full-price and sale items. This promotion ends on May 20!

Here are my picks that enjoy the additional 30% CARDSONLY discount:

image

J.Crew candy stripe popover shirt.

This fun shirt reminds me of a lifesaver roll wrapper or the sleeves of my little Korean hanbok (it’s the traditional Korean dress) when I was a kid. The print is cheerful to the max, it just screams summer.

image

J.Crew chino sailor pants in navy & white.

As you may be aware, I’ve been obsessed with sailor pants and shorts this year (can you tell from this post, haha). I love nautical inspired looks for the spring and summer. But what sold me on this particular pair is the lace-up detail in the back. I’m not sure if it’s functional to tighten or loosen the fit at the waist. Who cares though, it’s a subversive sexy detail.

image

J.Crew gingham bandana, plaid bandana & striped belt.

This is my second attempt at getting a gingham bandana. The first try was with a pocket square (posted here), but it was too small to tie around my neck or anywhere else really. I gave it to my husband to use as a…pocket square. I’m very excited for the two bandanas, they looked adorable styled in the J.Crew mailer. I also love the old school preppy belt, which should smarten up my shorts, jeans and skirts this summer.

image

J.Crew madras shorts.

This classic pair of madras shorts have been around before the June rollout, but they’re included in the promo and I can attest to how great these shorts are since I recently purchased them. They are true to size (I ordered my usual size 0) and the length and fit are perfect. I had a pair of these shorts from J.Crew Factory (worn here & here) but they are too large for me to wear now.

image

J.Crew chambray crystal earrings & leather eyelet sandals.

I didn’t order the gorgeous earrings or the pretty sandals, but I’d seriously consider it if I were in the market for earrings and flat sandals. The online description says the earrings are lightweight, which is a key feature. If you put your hair up a lot in the summer, how glorious would these be next to your face? The cutout sandals are ultra feminine and would show off a deep summer tan.

image

J.Crew green sunglasses, Dr. Scholl’s for J.Crew white lacquer sandals & Gallabia Peru mini dress.

The three items above are excluded from all the promos. Sad face. But that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy looking at them.

You need green sunglasses, trust me. I bought my pair recently (at Banana Republic, but green is sold out) and I love them. It’s a lovely contrast against your complexion and hair. I’m wearing my pair here, here and here. This pair from J.Crew is nearly identical in the shade of green.

The all-white Dr. Scholl’s sandals kill me. I would have bought these had they been part of the CARDSONLY promotion. I remember having a pair of Dr. Scholl’s as a kid, I thought they were the absolute bomb. I will be keeping a close eye on these for future promos.

Lastly, how perfectly boho is that dress? But it’s a cover-up. For $250. It doesn’t matter anyway, it’s sold out in my size. That was fast. But it’s still available in medium and large, thankfully.

So, what do you think of my picks? Are you planning to shop the J.Crew sale?

Have a great Tuesday! xx

Here are a couple of recent outfits. As you can see, I have a thing for stripes. I love how both tops are striped but different in their silhouettes and vibes. The navy striped top is flirty and fun. The camel striped top is retro and minimalist. Stripes are versatile like that.

Good news, looks like J.Crew has restocked the ruffle sleeve striped top so all the sizes are available again. As you may remember from my earlier review (read it here), go one size down from your normal size.

How are you wearing your stripes for spring?

Hope you’re enjoying your weekend! xx

reviews of shorts + gingham, because summer

Hello Spring! It took you long enough, ha. I took advantage of J.Crew’s sale and free shipping promos last week (when it was cold, grey and rainy) to stock up on much needed shorts. I had to replace my old shorts (too large to wear). I only ordered shorts that were already reduced to a sale price and got an additional discount, which explains why they may be sold out or only limited sizes are available.

I ordered the following four pairs of shorts, all in a size 0:

image

J.Crew deco floral shorts (similar), harbor shorts in classic green, skinny stripe shorts & polka dot shorts (going clockwise).

image

J.Crew Factory cable knit cotton sweater in white (old, similar here & here); J.Crew skinny stripe shorts & deco floral shorts (similar); Vans navy leather slip-on sneakers (old, similar here & here).

I’ll start off with the keepers of the bunch. The fit is flawless for both pairs, so true to size. I also like the inseam, not too short and not too long. The skinny stripe is a subtle stripe whereas the floral is loud and proud. I’m really digging both prints and they are anchored by blue, which is one of my favorite colors. I’m extremely pleased with these shorts.

image

J.Crew Factory cable knit cotton sweater in white (old, similar here & here); J.Crew harbor shorts in classic green & polka dot shorts; Vans navy leather slip-on sneakers (old, similar here & here).

Now, the returns. I was on the fence about the green Harbor shorts because despite the longer inseam, I thought the fitted look was a fresh take. It’s true to size with a close fit throughout the shorts (waist, butt and legs). But I couldn’t get the image of Scout Master Ward from Wes Anderson’s ‘Moonrise Kingdom’ out of my head. So, back they go.

The polka dot shorts were not true to size, they ran large in the waist, butt and legs for me. Also the length was too long for my liking. Overall, I was not feeling these shorts even if the fit was perfect. A return for sure.

image

J.Crew metallic gingham popover shirt & vintage cropped jean in rinse wash (old, similar); STEVEN by Steve Madden ‘Voomme’ sandal in blue suede.

I also ordered the metallic popover shirt last week. This top sold out instantly as soon as it became available two or three months ago. I kept checking online since then with the hopes that someone returned this top in my size. And finally, a popback in a size 0–yesssss. I really love this light and airy top, the metallic threading throughout gives it an almost ethereal vibe. My favorite is the tomboy feel of the shirt when it’s buttoned at the neck. It’s more feminine when you unbutton the top button and add a statement necklace. I really love the dual nature of this top.

I wore my cropped flare jeans that I bought last year with my new blue suede block heel sandals. They really complemented the blue gingham.

I hope you found the reviews to be helpful.

Have a great Thursday! xx

let’s tee up

The mighty white tee, it’s always the layer you can count on no matter how wacky the spring weather. It’s cold again, but I’m ready for it with my cropped pants, bomber jacket, oxfords and white tee.

How do you style your white tee?

Have a good Tuesday!

Madewell skinny overalls, embroidered tassel top & black marled socks (sold out); Adidas Superstar sneakers; Cara spike hinge cuff (old, similar).

Here are three recent outfits, two of which show how dreary it was last week. I’m wearing socks in the third outfit–socks in May, there’s something so unnatural about that.

The striped lace-up dress is today’s look, brought on by the sunshine and 60°+ temps. Finally. The dress is new and it runs true to size (I’m wearing an XS). There’s a white with navy stripes version too but I opted for the navy with white stripes colorway. I figured it would be more slimming and stain-friendly. It’s very cute in person and it’s almost like a ponte material (yet not too thick or heavy in weight). Machine washable, yay! I also appreciate the relatively modest lace-up neckline, where it’s not too low.

What have you been wearing this spring that brings you joy?

Have a great week! xx

voomme shoe review

image

Madewell embroidered tassel top in almost black; Banana Republic medium wash crop flare jeans; STEVEN by Steve Madden Voomme sandal in pink suede.

I found the perfect block heel sandals to wear with everything, especially with cropped flare jeans or pants, for this spring and summer. STEVEN by Steve Madden’s Voomme sandals are true to size and have a truly comfortable 2.75″ block heel. Please allow me to explain how I came across this great shoe find.

image

Stuart Weitzman NearlyNude sandal in saddle suede.

Let’s start at the beginning. The NearlyNude sandal was the inspiration. A not-so-high block heel to wear with all your new spring looks. But I’ll take a pass on the $400 price tag. So, I cast these sandals out of my mind, until maybe a good sale rolled around in the future.

image

Ivanka Trump Klover sandal in blue chambray suede.

Then, I ran across these blue beauties on Nordstrom’s website. I ordered these immediately because the price was right (under $140) and I was taken with that gorgeous chambray blue suede.

I was not disappointed by the sandals once they arrived, the suede really does have a chambray or denim texture to it. Alas, they run large (the back of my heels did not reach the back of the shoes at all) and the heel height was too tall for my comfort level. So, these were a return for me.

image

STEVEN by Steve Madden Voomme sandal in blue suede & pink suede.

Like Goldilocks, these Voomme sandals are just right. The heel height is perfect, well under 3 inches, and the true-to-size fit is spot on. They ring in at under $100 at Macy’s. I purchased the sandals during the Friends & Family event so they were even less expensive. Annnnd, I bought two pairs–blue and pink. Macy’s also sells the Voomme in black suede and in taupe suede.

I am now realizing that they are the two Pantone colors for 2016 (serenity blue and rose quartz), how about that? I just wanted pretty pastel colors for spring and summer. The blush pink suede works like a nude toned sandal, it looks great with nearly all the colors. I thought the baby blue color would look great with my navy nautical looks.

Are you wearing block heel sandals?

We are officially at the midway point to the weekend–yippee!

a skirt for spring

image

Armor Lux red striped top (old, similar here & here); Banana Republic ruched jersey skirt (old, similar); Vans grey leather sneakers (old, similar); Red bandana (old, similar).

This was yesterday’s red and grey outfit, which was appropriate for a spring day. I’m easing my way back into skirts and bare legs with this soft and stretchy jersey knit skirt.

You know I love stripes, probably too much, but red Breton stripes are my favorite. They just brighten up any outfit. The red bandana was added as a playful finishing accent.

Happy Tuesday! xx
