last call on #nsale: workout clothes review

TGIF! The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (“NAS”) ends on Monday, August 3rd. Hard to believe it’s almost over. I purchased some workout wear since I’m at the gym practically everyday. Just a tip if you order online, keep checking online to see if your particular size comes back in stock. I did this for the items below and lucked out in getting my size.

imageimage

Zella sports bra.

This isn’t included in the NAS but it’s 33% off and the sale price is about the same as the NAS price. I love the straps on this bra. It’s very comfortable to wear and it had a decent amount of support for me. Yet, it’s more geared for low impact exercises like yoga, the elliptical or rower, and weight training. Or it’s great to lounge around your house as a base layer. I have the Small size and it fits great.

Zella Sports bra.

I ordered the space dye red bra in a size Small.

imageimage

Zella shorts in navy.

Great workout shorts for everything! I love my Lululemon What The Sport shorts (discussed here) and the Zella pair is similar but at a fraction of the cost. I ordered these in an X-Small.

image

Zella shorts in black.

It’s solid black in the back, except for the waistband. I have this in XS.

imageimage

Nike tank.

So, this tank runs big. I just returned a Small sized tank. The tank was so big, the armholes were gaping outward. I hope the XS size fits. It’s the prefect light layer when it’s really hot outside or indoors for spin or yoga classes. And how cute are the back straps?

I also purchased mesh leggings from Lululemon, which was not part of the NSA. They are pretty awesome.

Lululemon mesh leggings.

These were so different from the usual leggings. The mesh panels keep you cooler during workouts and the 7/8 length is perfect for short legs like mine. I bought these in a size 4, so true to (my Lululemon) size. It was a splurge, but so worth it!

So, there you have it. Have a healthy Friday!

sun’s out!

Sun’s out, hats and sunnies out! Two recent outfits that were easy to wear in the warm summer sun. I love my new Light Ray sunglasses from Ray Ban, they are so lightweight and fun to wear. The mirrored lenses are a great feature too. The Panama hat seems to go with just about every summer outfit so far, it’s become a staple.

Did you know that as we age, it’s important to wear sunglasses to preserve your vision? An ophthalmologist gave me that tip last year during an annual check-up. Sunglasses also offes some sun protection for the delicate skin around your eyes. Add a hat or visor with a wider brim and you are in good shape for enjoying the sun!

Have a great Tuesday! xx

panama hat & red bandana

image

Madewell Panama hat & crop jeans; LOFT Ikat tank (old, similar); Lucky Brand Wekka sandals in Honey; Cara spike cuff (similar) & leather studded cuff; Diamond stud earrings (similar).

Another quick outfit post, this summer look is fun and practical. Practical because if you have black hair like I do, the black absorbs the heat like crazy (you could probably fry an egg on my head some days). Hats are necessary for me when the sun is beating down. It also prevents sun damage for your face and your hair (yup, your hair needs protection too).

I think the red bandana is so cute and it adds a pop of color.

The black and white ikat tank keeps me cool. And, the ikat print is so fitting for summer. The jeans are new from Madewell and they are amazing. I went with a size 25 and there’s a nice hint of stretch to them. They are straight leg jeans so you can do a wider cuff without messing with the proportions of the jean legs.

Do you wear hats? Which are your favorite styles? Enjoy your Thursday! xx

bandana scarf ootd

image

Madewell indigo linen embroidery tank (old) & bandana scarf; Zara linen midi skirt (old, similar metallic linen skirt with code BRSAVE for an additional 40% off!); Lucky Brand Wekka fringe sandal in Honey; Cara spike cuff (similar), love knot cuff (old) & leather studded cuff (old); Cartier tank watch; Black & white diamond ring.

A quickie outfit of the day post today. It is 95 degrees outside and this weather calls for lighter natural fibers such as linen (the skirt), cotton (the scarf), a combo of linen & cotton (the tank), and slivers of suede (the fringe sandals). The bandana scarf is perforated so it’s actually very lightweight. It’s also on sale with an additional 40% off (with code EXTRA40), so the price is right.

Hope you’re staying cool on this hot summer day! xx

#nsale reviews, nails & diamond kisses

I was very lucky to celebrate my birthday this past week with my family. It was really wonderful to spend the whole week together and we did a lot of healthy stuff as a family. My mom, dad and sister got a weekly membership at our gym and my sister and my husband made healthy meal after healthy meal (every one was so delicious!). It was the best!

image

RGB nail polish in Too Red; Black & white diamond ring (birthday gift from my husband, the X’s represent kisses).

This is my first RGB nail polish. I was impressed by the intensity of this red nail polish. Very saturated and two coats were looking gorgeous. But, it chipped on the second day of wear for me. In fairness, I was hand washing dishes like crazy, cleaning and opening all of our Nordstrom Anniversary Sale boxes (I can hear the world’s tiniest violin playing somewhere). I’m not giving up on this RGB polish, I think it will be a fabulous summer toenail color. My toes never chip by some miracle.

And, this ring though. Swoon. I love it so much, it’s unique and ultra modern in its simple graphic design. Plus, sparkly! I’m truly blessed with a wonderful husband.

Madewell v-neck tee in Dark Rosette (code EXTRA40 for an additional 40% off sale colors!) & Arrowstack necklace; Current/Elliott Stiletto jeans (Anniversary Sale item); Forever 21 slides (similar); Cara studded leather bracelet (old); Cartier tank watch.

I got the Madewell tee as a birthday gift from my sister and I love it! The fit is perfect and just the right hint of slouch. With the 40% off code, I’m tempted to buy some other colors. I’m wearing an XS for your reference. And, I’m so glad I got the Current/Elliott Stiletto jeans this year from the Anniversary Sale. I bought a pair last year during the #nsale but they are too big now. I’m wearing a size 25 for your reference. This pair had a fair amount of stretch to them so get your true size or perhaps order one size smaller.

Barefoot Dreams cardigan in heathered navy stripe (Anniversary Sale item); Madewell v-neck tee in Dark Rosette (code EXTRA40 for an additional 40% off sale colors!) & Arrowstack necklace; Current/Elliott Stiletto jeans (Anniversary Sale item); Forever 21 slides (similar); Cara studded leather bracelet (old); Cartier tank watch.

I drank the Kool-Aid. I’m so glad I ordered this ridiculously soft cardigan. It feels like your favorite chenille bathrobe, it’s unbelievable how cozy this is. I also love that it doesn’t leave fuzzies all over the rest of your clothing. Now I understand it’s huge popularity with bloggers and Nordstrom customers.

Barefoot Dreams cardigan in heathered oatmeal stripe (Anniversary Sale item); J.Crew Factory kiss kiss tee (old); Bar III fringe necklace (similar); Current/Elliott Stiletto jeans (Anniversary Sale item); Forever 21 slides (similar); Cara studded leather bracelet (old); Cartier tank watch.

This cardigan can do boho with ease, just add some fringe. The oatmeal color is versatile to the extreme.

#nsale early access

It’s Early Access time for Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale!

image

I actually shopped the sale online yesterday but it was still a mini-marathon of browsing, editing, etc. In the end, it was another epic haul and I designated yesterday as my triple points day. Surprisingly, I bought a few things for myself and the rest was picking out cool stuff for my husband. Nothing really spoke to me from my iPad screen from the women’s designer and contemporary offerings, as it had in anniversary sales past.

But the men’s sale was excellent, especially if your guy is in the market for business clothing. I mentioned yesterday that my husband lost a significant amount of weight, so he was in need of new clothing (isn’t this the best type of shopping?). Plus, Nordstrom is one of the very few department stores that carries a nice designer and basics selection of big & tall sized clothing. He’s 6’6″ and wears a size 14 shoe.

Lots of top tier men’s brands were on sale. I bought a few Hickey Freeman suits and a sport coat. I also got a gorgeous Canali suit. I stocked up on the usual Nordstrom brand basics (all are super values when on sale, they last and wear well) such as dress shirts, undershirts, boxers and wool slacks (if JB Britches is an in-house Nordstrom label). For fun, I bought him two pairs of casual sneakers.

Okay, here are the few items that I bought. I kept in mind that I needed new jeans but I didn’t want to be bothered by getting them hemmed, so I bought another pair of these jeans. I bought my first Stilettos last year during the Anniversary Sale, and they are great jeans (perfect length, no hemming required). Here’s my review.

image

Stiletto jeans in Reconaissance.

I also bought two of the Barefoot Dreams cardigan, mostly out of extreme curiosity. They always sell out for the Anniversary Sale and they are so beloved by bloggers and Nordstrom online reviewers. They fall under the intimates/loungewear section, so that’s why the stock photos have models in their underwear or in-house yoga pants. But I’ve seen bloggers wear the cardigan everywhere, not just for inside the house. I thought the stripes were cute and I actually don’t have cardigans in navy or oatmeal, so…..

image

image

Drape front cardigan in heathered navy stripe and heathered oatmeal stripe.

And, I bought a wool hat in three different color options (black, burgundy and heather grey). Hopefully they will fit. I don’t have a hat like this for fall/winter and I didn’t want to pay lots of money for one either (I’ve wanted the Rag & Bone floppy hat for a couple of seasons, but it was $$$$). This hat was the best value of the bunch, under $40 and it’s 100% wool with real leather details.

Floppy felt hat.

So, that’s it for now. Did you score any Anniversary Sale treats? Feel free to share what you’ve bought or plan to buy. TGIF, xx!!

lululemon & beats

Hope you enjoyed your holiday weekend! I’ve been on a hiatus of sorts, not many blog-worthy outfits as of late. Instead, lots of gym clothes since my workouts are getting more intense. I’m doing weights again and it’s very rewarding to see that I’m getting progressively stronger over time.

I’ve treated myself to more Lululemon goodies and wireless headphones. Here are my Instagram pics:

image

Lululemon Sweaty or Not bra in white (top) and black (bottom) & Lululemon Stuff Your Bra II in pink & stripes (middle). The sports bras are early birthday gifts, and can I just say that they are amazing. I needed smaller sized bras since my old ones are too big on me. The open backs are great ventilation but I think they’re just damn sexy. Wearing these beauties provide me with extra motivation to tone up my back, chest and shoulders.

image

Lululemon Sweaty or Not bra in white. Back of the bra, how cool is the back? I like the 2 little gold stripes in the front, it feels a little disco with the white.

image

New Balance tank & Old Navy sports bra (both old). I finally got rid of my underarm fat, which really bothered me. Now, free weights and weight machines tone what was formerly mushy. I’m working like crazy on my triceps now, to firm up my bat wings.

image

Lululemon No Limits tank (old) & Lululemon What the Sport shorts; Beats Studio wireless headphones in matte black. The Lululemon shorts are my favorite workout shorts, no peekaboo while on the rower or lying down on the bench or mat. There are side pockets where your stuff does not fall out. The best, though, are my new Beats wireless headphones. These are a game changer for your workouts. No wires, no ear buds popping out and no more dropping your iPhone. The sound is ridiculously amazing, I feel like I’m at a club and that I should be drinking a Ketel One & club instead of my water. I need music for working out and this truly makes my trips to the gym enjoyable. For real.

Tune in later for what I’ve been eyeing and buying from Nordstrom’s anniversary sale (presale for Nordstrom card holders commenced today!). I didn’t get much for myself but I bought my husband lots of beautiful clothes (he has been my healthy living inspiration, I’m trying to keep up with his insane weight loss and muscle building!). But the shopping day is still young, as I have chosen today as my triple points day.

Have a great Thursday night! xx
