J.Crew Painter striped tee in ivory vibrant red (sold out, similar) & chino sailor pants in navy; GAP cross strap leather slides in new off white.

Free People off-the-shoulder top in white; J.Crew white denim shorts & striped wide belt; GAP cross strap leather slides in new off white.

I love dressing in the summer, so many fun options. Here are a couple of recent outfits. I’m digging the nautical feel of the first look and the all-white ensemble in the second is made fresh with a wide striped belt. As a follow-up to my earlier J.Crew post, the white denim shorts are a hit (true to size and the very stretchy material makes for a truly comfortable short). I love the graphic striped belt, it really punctuates an outfit. The belt is made in the USA, which I sincerely appreciate very much.

What have you been wearing in the first days of summer? Any special Fourth of July weekend outfits that you’re planning to wear? As always, I’d love to hear about it.

Happy Wednesday! xx

new beauty review

Gosling’s ChopSaver Lip Care; Nars Mono├» Body Glow II Body Oil; Kiehl’s Olive Fruit Oil Deeply Repairative Hair Pak.

TGIF! I can’t wait to get the weekend started, how about you?

Here are my recently added beauty holy grail items which are perfect for all four seasons, but are most essential for the summer months. Think bare shoulders and legs, fried hair from the sun, saltwater or chlorine, and sunburned or windburned lips. The best part though? All are made in the USA!

Let’s start with the ChopSaver lip balm. I am a lip balm junkie, I’m never without it. I saw this at my local CVS and thought I’d give it a go. It was made by a professional trumpet player who needs his lips to be in top shape at all times. It’s 100% natural and it helps with chronic lip pain. I’m hooked because it has the best lasting power out of all the lip balms I’ve used and I like the texture. It’s moisturizing and not goopy or waxy, so it’s a nice base before lipstick or lipgloss. I like the orange tube (versus the original formula in the green tube) because it has SPF15. I started using ChopSaver a few months ago when it was still chilly outside so it’s great for the drying winter cold (and cranking heat indoors) as well as for the summer sun.

Next is the Nars Mono├» body oil. Who doesn’t love the idea of being a tanned, glowy goddess for the summer? Legs, feet, shoulders, arms and chests are exposed and on full display. But do you want to know what prompted me to purchase this body oil? I read this online Byrdie article and was so intrigued, that I needed this in my life pronto. It just so happens to be a great mosquito repellant (mosquitos love me but the feeling is not mutual). And, it smells really lovely (it’s Tahitian gardenias, called the tiare flower, in refined coconut extract), absorbs quickly (no greasy feeling and no stains on your clothes, but give it at least 5 minutes to absorb) and I can attest to the glowy skin after applying it. Take a look at my skin in yesterday’s maxi dress outfit, my legs and shoulders possessed that dewy look. And it lasts longer than the body lotions I’ve been using. Normally my legs and arms get flaky with dry skin after several hours or the following day. The flaky factor has seriously diminished using this oil, I’m impressed. It’s still too early in the summer for a full-blown mosquito fest, but I haven’t been bitten yet since using the body oil. It’s the most expensive item of the three featured, but you only need a little bit (unlike your conventional lotions which contain lots of water anyway) so it should last awhile. Also, how pretty is that Nars bottle with the original tiare flower at the bottom?

Lastly, the Kiehl’s hair pak. I use this as a hair conditioner about once or twice a week in the shower. I can always tell when I use it as opposed to using my regular conditioner, my hair seems softer and not as thick or wiry in texture. But the main reason why I bought it in the first place was to give my scalp relief. I have a small patch of skin on the back of my head that has severe dandruff, not the white flaky kind, but the kind where it’s crazy itchy and I scratch out chunks of my scalp. It appeared out of nowhere a few years ago and I have consulted with a couple of dermatologists about it. I use a prescribed medicated shampoo but once I dry my hair, that scalp patch starts to feel itchy again. I bought the Kiehl’s hair pak hoping it would help and it really does. I still get itchy but the sensation is held off for a full day or more. My scratching has noticeably decreased to myself and my husband (he reminds me to stop scratching since I do it absentmindedly). It’s a really big tub and you only need a little bit for your scalp and hair. I have read online reviews where you can leave it in your hair for a long time (shower cap), I should remember to try it out.

Do you use any of the featured beauty products? Have any beauty holy grail items you’d like to share?

Enjoy your Friday! xx

outfits lately

J.Crew banana sleeveless tee; Madewell denim boy shorts in frances wash (old, similar here & here); Kork Ease ‘Tamara’ metallic cork wedge sandals in pink (old).

GAP column maxi dress in true indigo & cross strap leather slides in true indigo; Madewell Arrowstack necklace, Lightvision earrings (sold out), Morocco ring (sold out, similar); Cara studded leather bracelet (old, similar); Omega watch (vintage).

Summer is officially here as per the calendar, but more importantly with the gorgeous warm weather! I’m excited because it’s my favorite season.

For the first look, how cute is the J.Crew muscle tank? Besides the adorable metallic gold bananas on the front and back, the fit is flattering. It possesses the perfect drape, rounded hems and no-show armholes. The sizing is generous, I bought one size smaller than my usual (size XXS). Plus, the tee is so soft to the touch. I purchased the top on Monday when J.Crew had a 24-hour 30% off promo.

The second look is simple and easy. And fast, I got dressed in 5 seconds flat. The maxi dress and slide sandals are recent online purchases from the GAP (featured here) and I couldn’t be more pleased with both items. The maxi dress is true to size (I’m wearing an XS) and the length is perfect for my shorter legs. You can wear a regular bra (yay!) and that slit on the bottom left side is a fun detail. I really like the true indigo color, I’m so into navy blue lately. I did, however, return the lighter docksider blue maxi dress because the color looked cheap in person.

The slide sandals are also true to size (I’m wearing a size 8) and they have been in constant rotation since their delivery. I have a ton of navy blue already in my wardrobe so these slides help keep the look monochromatic and sleek.

I hope you are enjoying the first days of summer! xx

half-off WEDNESDAY at j.crew

J.Crew is doing a special online promo event this week where there is a different promotion for each day and it runs for 24 hours. It started on Monday and it ends this Friday. Today’s promo yields an extra 50% off on select summer merchandise. It’s a great time to stock up on staples such as their chino shorts and basic summer accessories. Also, there are a few things that I’ve bought previously and recommend.

J.Crew candy stripe popover shirt and candy stripe dress.

I really love both candy stripe items, here’s my earlier review. How great is it that they are 50% off?

J.Crew textured straw hat in dusty dune & black.

As you may remember, I constantly wear hats during the summer to keep cool (my black hair gets super hot) and provide some sun protection for my skin/scalp and hair. For $17 each, I ordered both colors for this wider brimmed hat. It’s also supposed to be packable, which is a plus.

J.Crew striped belt and striped wide belt.

I’m wearing the narrow striped belt in this recent picture:

J.Crew 4″ chino short in storm grey, vintage kelly & honey brown and white denim shorts.

I previously purchased the 4″ chino shorts in storm grey and it’s a true fit for me. Love the length, where it’s just right (not too short or too long). I just ordered the kelly green pair for $15 and the tan shorts for $17.

I love denim shorts and was looking for a white pair. I’m glad I waited for this half-off promotion because I just ordered a pair for just under $35. The website says it has a 4″ inseam which is my preferred length.

Here’s my outfit today which features the grey chino shorts:

Madewell chambray courier shirt in buckley wash, lightvision earrings (sold out), Morocco ring (sold out) & leather cuff (old); J.Crew 4″ chino short in storm grey & vintage plaid bandana (sold out); Vans grey leather sneakers (old).

Don’t forget the 50% discount ends at midnight tonight. Happy summer to you!

floral friday

J.Crew popover shirt in navy & dressy short in deco floral (sold out, similar here & here); GAP cross strap leather slides in indigo; Ray Ban polarized aviator sunglasses; Cara spike hinge cuff (old, similar) & studded white leather cuff (old, similar).

TGIF! I’m ready to say adios to this past week and welcome the upcoming weekend with open arms.

Today’s outfit is comprised of recent acquisitions, unfortunately the shorts have since sold out since my purchase. The navy popover shirt and leather slides are instant faves and will pretty much match with a majority of my wardrobe. Both the top and sandals run true to size for me (size 0 for the top and size 8 for the slides).

Enjoy your Friday night and upcoming weekend! xx

outfits lately

J.Crew boatneck t-shirt in multicolor stripe in undyed clay saffron & striped belt; Madewell skinny fatigue pants in british surplus (sold out, similar), lightvision earrings (sold out), Morocco ring (sold out) & leather cuff (old); Kate Spade New York initial pendant; Dogeared Faith cross necklace in gold; Sam & Libby for Target Karina sandals (old, similar); Ray Ban Light Ray sunglasses.

Milly for Kohl’s striped t-shirt dress (old, similar); Franco Sarto Venezia flats in platino (old, similar); Harvard-Yale Regatta crimson baseball cap; Ray Ban polarized aviator sunglasses; Kate Spade New York initial pendant.

J.Crew Carrie cami in navy, Collection cashmere cardigan in navy gingham, Teddie sailor pant in skinny stripe; Steven by Steve Madden Voomme sandals in blue suede; Madewell lightvision earrings (sold out), Morocco ring (sold out) & leather cuff (old); Kate Spade New York initial pendant; Dogeared Faith cross necklace in gold.

A few recent outfits and guess what–stripes again! I can’t help myself, ha.

Everything is relatively old except for the last outfit. I bought J.Crew’s Carrie cami in navy so I could wear it with the striped sailor pants and to layer under my gingham cardigan. The cami lived up to the hype (lots of favorable online reviews), the fit and drape are very flattering. I need more of these (like black) but I will wait for a good sale price with an additional promo discount. Of course after my search for the right top to wear with these pants, I’ve decided to return the striped sailor pants. They are not comfortable in the crotch even though the fit is spot on everywhere else. Ugh, I give up on these Teddie pants.

Hope your Tuesday is treating you well! xx

summer is coming

J.Crew candy stripe dress; Forever 21 slide sandals (old, similar here & here); Palm fedora (souvenir from Cabo, similar here & here); Ray Ban polarized aviator sunglasses.

Madewell v-neck tee in light purple (old, similar) & Ensign necklace in silver; J.Crew madras shorts; Forever 21 slide sandals (old, similar here & here); Rebecca Minkoff dog clip leather bracelet (old); Cara love knot hinge bracelet (old, similar).

J.Crew candy stripe dress; Forever 21 slide sandals (old, similar here & here); Palm fedora (souvenir from Cabo, similar here & here); Ray Ban polarized aviator sunglasses.

This weather has been really beautiful lately. It makes me want to get the summer wardrobe staples into high gear.

I throw on the candy stripe dress from J.Crew a lot. It’s easy one-piece dressing and I think it looks polished and fun. The deep pockets are a lifesaver and are strongly reinforced. I can keep my iPhone, key, lip balm and Bella’s treats in the pockets. Here’s an earlier review here and I also wore it here.

I love my new madras shorts from J.Crew. I wrote a quickie review here. It’s classic and preppy, old school J.Crew. I diffused the preppy vibe with a plain tee and not-so-preppy jewelry.

What have you been wearing to welcome the upcoming summer weather?

Happy Friday to you and enjoy your upcoming weekend! xx

summer staples on the cheap at GAP

If you’re looking to replenish your summer staples on the cheap, then check out the Gap. Until midnight tonight, get an additional 35% off with promo code LOVE or an extra 40% off for cardholders with code JUNE. I scoured the sale section so there would be two levels of savings, which resulted in amazing deals. But I also stocked up on my favorite GapFit workout tanks and socks, which are regular price but the LOVE promo discount (I’m not a cardholder) makes the price just right.

GAP cross strap leather slides in cognac, indigo, white & black.

The slide sandals are leather and I love the minimalist look to them. I’m done with flip flop thong-style sandals, they tear up the skin between my toes. I’ve been enjoying my slide-style sandals instead. These are a steal at a net price of $25.99 (after the LOVE promo).

GAP print cami in purple floral.

This looks like a versatile layer for the warm months. It can easily be dressy or casual and the floral print is pretty, but not over the top. The cami comes under $20, nice.

GAP column maxi dress in dockside blue & true indigo.

There’s nothing more easy and comfortable than a maxi dress for the summer. I’ve been loving my striped maxi dress that I bought last year on clearance from J.Crew, because it has the side slit at the legs. It keeps it cool. The Gap maxi dresses have the same design with the side slit and the bonus of wide shoulder straps so you can wear your regular bra. They net about $18 each. There’s a solid black version of this maxi dress too.

GAP triangle bikini top in aqua & string bikini bottom in aqua.

GAP triangle bikini top in Casablanca white & string bikini bottom in Casablanca white.

Crazy savings on these bikini pieces where they are roughly $10 each after the promo discount applies. See, crazy savings. String bikini pieces are my favorite go-to swimsuit because the fit is always customized. My trick is to order one size bigger than my true size for more moderate coverage.

GAP nautical stripe scarf in hot red, floral classic bandana in buoy red & nautical stripe scarf in cool olive.

I bought the cool olive version of the nautical striped scarf, but it’s since sold out. But the hot red nautical striped scarf is still available. You may know that I collect and wear bandanas, so this pretty pink version was a no-brainer at $8.

GapFit zip front bra in blue camo, performance socks in neon lemon yellow & Breathe air twist-back tank in charcoal grey.

I stocked up on workout stuff even though they were not on sale but the promo codes still apply. I really love GapFit for their sports bras, tops and tanks. I had ordered the twist-back tank in my usual size (size XS) awhile ago and I love it. Very wispy in weight and feel, but still gives you the coverage you want. The fit is loose and drapey.

I love the blue camo sports bra with that neon front zipper, I can’t wait to get this! And the neon gym socks will coordinate with the copious amount of my neon infused workout wear.

Are you planning to shop the sale at the GAP?

Have a great Thursday, we are in the home stretch for the weekend. xx

more stripe love

J.Crew candy stripe dress; Banana Republic Margeaux sunglasses (similar).

Maison Jules striped lace-up tee; J.Crew gingham bandana (sold out, similar); Madewell denim boy shorts in frances wash (old, similar); Cara love knot hinge bracelet (old, similar).

Maison Jules striped lace-up tee; J.Crew gingham bandana (sold out, similar).

Maison Jules striped lace-up t-shirt dress in Blu Notte combo; Forever 21 slide sandals (old, similar); Ray Ban Light Ray sunglasses.

It’s safe to assume I’m addicted to stripes. The first and last photos are from my husband’s 25th college reunion, which was last weekend. I forgot about taking off the lanyard in the last picture, oh well. The middle images are from yesterday, which shows pattern mixing with gingham. So easy to do when you keep the same color combo throughout.

TGIF! Enjoy your weekend, xx!
