Whenever they give a storm a name, I’ve learned it’s generally going to be a doozy. They’ve named this winter storm Juno. Well Juno, I’m ready with my Joan of Arctic boots and my SmartWool socks. I walked outside this morning for almost an hour in 28 degree weather, the snow was falling sideways and getting into my eyeballs. The boots are awesome, my feet were warm and my toes had plenty of room to wiggle around (key to keep them warm). I love the grey shale color palette, it matches with all the colors. And, I’m a huge fan of SmartWool socks. If you don’t have a pair and you live somewhere cold, you need these. They last forever and are machine wash & dry. They don’t make you hot when you’re indoors and the heat is cranked up. And they are cushioned to make any bulky or heavy boot or shoe comfortable. I bought my first pair of SmartWool socks during the 1990’s to go hiking and they are still going strong. Hiking, however, not so much.

If you’re caught in Juno’s path this week, please be careful and keep warm!

check it out on netflix

We just watched two documentaries last night on Netflix streaming and I wanted to share them with you. Here are their trailers:

Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead 2. We watched the first Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead a few years ago and it helped motivate us to juice vegetables and fruits as well as considering a predominantly plant-based diet. The health benefits are immeasurable. Joe Cross, the creator, is back with a reboot where he checks in on some of the people he featured in his first film and the awe-inspiring ripple effect around the world of those who started the reboot of juicing or eating more of a plant-based diet. This film is realistic that weight-loss maintenance isn’t easy, even for Joe, but I love that he said you can reboot anytime and get back on the veggie & fruit train. We saved this documentary on My List so we can get motivation anytime we need it.

Living on One Dollar. Wow, what an eye-opener of a film. Four college kids go to a rural village in Guatemala for 56 days and have a budget of $56 total. Their experience is documented so well and it shows the struggles, generous spirit and raw ambition of the people living in abject poverty. The film states that 1.1 billion people worldwide live on $1 or less a day. But, the film explores the ways that some people better their situation by pooling their money or taking advantage of micro financing. Yet, the daily mutually exclusive question of whether to send their child to school or to feed their family food for any given day exists. And if a family member gets really sick, or if there is a natural disaster, the situation is truly dire. This is a must-see and it’s only an hour long.

Check out the films, you won’t regret it. Stay warm today! xx

ASOS navy sweater (similar); J.Crew Ludlow pants with sequin tuxedo stripe & floral shield necklace; J.Crew Factory Isabelle calf hair leopard pump.

TGIF! A quick post and run. I’m wearing all of my new stuff except for the sweater. The pants are so unexpected, how great is the tuxedo stripe made of gold sequins? There’s also a ribbon stripe that is navy and terra cotta, which is why I wore my navy sweater. The floral shield necklace really jazzes up the plain sweater. The leopard pumps are so fun, so glad I got them.

Enjoy your weekend! xx

#broadway

Every Christmas in recent memory brings Broadway theater tickets for my sister and me (Thanks Mom & Dad!). My sister and I saw Beautiful: The Carole King Musical last night. We loved it (musicals are our favorite) and I highly recommend this production. I can see why Jessie Mueller won the 2014 Tony award for best actress in a musical. She was amazing and so talented.

My outfit to see the show. It was freezing last night, so I dressed warmly. I love how comfortable the sweaterdress is. You don’t need a scarf with the generously sized turtleneck.

The marquee!

The pre-show stage. Love the simplicity of it.

Chanel Orage nail polish; Cartier tank watch.

I did a quick manicure before I got dressed. I love Orage, it’s such a dramatic and chic color for winter.

ChloƩ Marcie medium hobo in acerola.

The saturated red color is so welcome in my black and grey outfit. The medium sized hobo fits a ton of stuff and I love the easy access pocket hidden underneath the front flap. I can wear it over my shoulder, even over my puffer coat. This was such a great Nordstrom Anniversary Sale purchase, no regrets on this pretty lady.

J.Crew Factory Isabelle calf hair leopard pump.

Obviously not part of the Broadway night out ensemble, but a very recent purchase. I had a fashion emergency and needed pumps to wear with my new J.Crew pants (it’s the last image in this post). Can you believe that I didn’t have the right style & color pumps to go with the sequin striped pants? So, I did what I always do in a pinch–copy the styling in the stock photo (if I like the look). I needed leopard pumps, stat! I love, love, love the J.Crew Collection Elsie leopard pumps but not their $358 price tag. J.Crew Factory had the cheaper dupe and for considerably less. I purchased my pair at a store this week and it was running a 40% off promotion for selected sale items (the discount isn’t available online, however). $53 later and now they’re mine. This blog should be called Valley of the Leopard Shoes due to the growing collection of leopard shoes I have. Yikes.

We’re already looking forward to the next Broadway show, If/Then, with our favorite, Idina Menzel! But we’re doing it next month instead of next year. See you soon, the Great White Way!

Back to the outfit of the day posts! I’m wearing my new J.Crew popover and Art Deco necklace that I received as a Xmas gift. Leopard is a neutral as far as I’m concerned, so it was appropriate for my shoes and belt. I’m also wearing my new Clinique chubby stick that I also got for Xmas. This lip balm is amazing, it’s so moisturizing and the color is pretty saturated for a lip balm.

So, J.Crew is continuing the 50% off final sale items online and I’m sure it’s store wide too. I left the shirt untucked in the 3rd image above so you can see the length. I love that it’s long enough to tuck in and it stays put.

Have you shopped the January clearance sales? Happy Monday! xx

j.crew SHOPNOW ends tonight!

I’m seriously crushing on my recent J.Crew purchases. They’re running a sale in-store and online (code is SHOPNOW) and it ends tonight, so don’t delay if you see something you love. Just keep in mind that all items are final sale.

Here are my new lovelies:

image

Floral shield necklace. I first spotted this necklace on Gigi (her wonderful blog is the first listed on my blog roll) and was very impressed how this necklace elevates even a simple t-shirt. Total keeper.

image

Beaded chevron popover in black watch plaid. Again, another item I fell in love with on Gigi’s blog. At this price, I bought this shirt in 3 colors. I went down one size from my usual. The tunic length is long enough to wear leggings. It also looks very smart tucked in.

image

Beaded chevron popover in vintage surplus. I went down one size from my usual. This looks extra golden goddess with gold jewelry. You will glow in this top.

image

Beaded chevron popover in white. White shirts are always classic and this one has a bit of a twist. Again, I went down one size from my usual size.

image

Ludlow pants with sequin tuxedo stripe. I went down one size since the cut is somewhat generous. They are business in the front and back, but they bring the party on the sides.

Enjoy your Sunday night, I’ll be watching Downton Abbey with some wine. Cheers!

recent pics

I took a little break over the holidays from taking outfit pics, but here are some pics from my Instagram so you can see what I’ve been up to lately:

image

My new red wine obsession, Palazzo Della Torre, from Allegrini. It’s a baby Amarone and it’s wonderful to drink with food or just on its own. It’s silky and delicate but the aroma and color are rich and bold. We had the pleasure of visiting the producer, their winery and breathtaking property, Villa Della Torre, last year during out Italy trip. Check it out here on their website. I remember fondly of our visit every time I sip their wine.

image

Look at that face. It’s Henry, my brother-in-law’s English bulldog. He’s a year old now and just a love muffin.

image

Screen shot of My Fitness Pal progress page from a couple of weeks ago. I started MFP a year and 15 pounds ago, woo hoo! To think I lost over 10% of my body weight is crazy. I’m striving to lose more weight and gain more healthy habits for 2015.

image

We joined a gym (!!) on New Year’s Eve and I took a pic of their sign to remind me of the important message. We exercised almost everyday during our recent vacation to Mexico.

Just. Go.

The beautiful ocean of Cancun, Mexico. The water was turquoise, warm and perfect.

Dipping my toes in the sand. You can see a peek of my striped coverup (old, but similar here).

image

I love this tropical coverup and Panama hat from Madewell (sold out, but similar here). The tiny bows on the sides of my sunglasses make me smile every time.

Happy Wednesday! xx

Happy New Year! Hope you enjoyed the holidays with your loved ones. We kicked off 2015 with a long vacation to Mexico. What a great start to the new year, it was totally restorative and relaxing for both of us.

The outfit above is from New Year’s Day. It was a gorgeous day at the beach. Brisk, but the sun was warm and bright. The pom pom hat was a Christmas gift from my sister. It’s so fun to wear, I love it. The fisherman sweater was easy to layer over a gingham button-down, you get to see a fun print and it definitely covers my midriff.

How did you ring in 2015? Have a great week! xx
