Happy Wednesday and last day of November 2016! I cannot believe December starts tomorrow–2016 is simply flying by at warp speed.
This review is a follow-up from this earlier post and I apologize for the dark images. It was late on Cyber Monday when I was able to try on my recent J.Crew purchases. I was waiting for a sunny day for better lighting but it’s been dark and stormy since Monday night.
I’m keeping the quilted lady jacket in black stewart plaid. It’s a snazzy little jacket that really livens up your outfit. I’m wearing size 0 in this photo and I believe the fit is true to size.
I really like the velvet cami overall, but I think the regular length of 26″ (per J.Crew’s website description) is too short on my longer torso. I’m wearing a regular size 0 here (with the adjustable straps at the loosest fit) and it’s too short and a smidge tight across the chest. So, I’ve returned the short camis to the store. Fortunately, I’ve ordered a tall size 2 (described as 28″ long, so 2 inches longer) online in this fabulous dark amber color (and in the brunswick blue color, but not in the black and deep jade as they were sold out in my size), which really shows off the luxe velvet texture. So, I’m waiting for the longer velvet camis in dark amber and brunswick blue to arrive.
I think the velvet cami in the deep jade is beyond gorgeous but alas, it’s sold out in tall size 2. I will keep checking to see if they restock the size I desire. Again, I’m wearing the quilted lady jacket in size 0 above.
This is the quilted lady jacket in size 2, which I think also fit. But, given the boxy shape of the jacket, the size 2 did not give me a feminine shape as the size 0 jacket, which you can really see when it’s fully buttoned up. Also, the shorter bracelet sleeves were gone in the size 2 since the sleeve length was longer than the size 0. I can’t wear a thin sweater underneath in the size 0, but I can comfortably wear a cami, a silk/poly blouse or a tissue turtleneck underneath.
The velvet cami is a staple in black, I highly recommend it. Unfortunately for me, black is either not offered in tall sizes or it’s been sold out in tall sizes. In any event, I’ll be very pleased with the amber and electric blue velvet camis if they work, sizing-wise.
I love this plaid button-down shirt because of that bib feature. It gives it the most interesting tweak in the ubiquitous plaid shirt. I’m wearing a size 2 in the photo above and I’m waiting for the size 0 to be delivered so I can compare the fit. I’ll report back with which size works better.
So here’s the update, since the size 0 shirt arrived later today. The size 0 was too narrow in the torso part of the shirt where it was a tight fit across the chest. It’s a very tailored fit for this shirt, so I’d try on one size up from your usual. I’m keeping the size 2 shirt and returning the size 0.
This ivory and charcoal buffalo plaid shirt is not fancy but it will become a workhorse staple in the fall and winter wardrobe. The neutral palette will match with everything already in my closet. I love the brown buttons on this shirt, it will look great with my cognac boots. I can’t wait to layer it under my cardigan sweaters. It’s slightly generous or relaxed in its sizing. I’m wearing my usual size 0 and it’s true to size.
A quick footnote, the navy Martie pants I mentioned in my earlier blog post were a success. Sorry for the lack of a picture, but I will post an outfit soon on my Instagram and blog. The overall fit and slight cropped length were spot on for me.
Did you shop the J.Crew sale? Do you have any new favorites?
Have a great day! xx
