new j.crew review

Happy Wednesday and last day of November 2016! I cannot believe December starts tomorrow–2016 is simply flying by at warp speed.

This review is a follow-up from this earlier post and I apologize for the dark images. It was late on Cyber Monday when I was able to try on my recent J.Crew purchases. I was waiting for a sunny day for better lighting but it’s been dark and stormy since Monday night.

I’m keeping the quilted lady jacket in black stewart plaid. It’s a snazzy little jacket that really livens up your outfit. I’m wearing size 0 in this photo and I believe the fit is true to size.

I really like the velvet cami overall, but I think the regular length of 26″ (per J.Crew’s website description) is too short on my longer torso. I’m wearing a regular size 0 here (with the adjustable straps at the loosest fit) and it’s too short and a smidge tight across the chest. So, I’ve returned the short camis to the store. Fortunately, I’ve ordered a tall size 2 (described as 28″ long, so 2 inches longer) online in this fabulous dark amber color (and in the brunswick blue color, but not in the black and deep jade as they were sold out in my size), which really shows off the luxe velvet texture. So, I’m waiting for the longer velvet camis in dark amber and brunswick blue to arrive.

I think the velvet cami in the deep jade is beyond gorgeous but alas, it’s sold out in tall size 2. I will keep checking to see if they restock the size I desire. Again, I’m wearing the quilted lady jacket in size 0 above.

This is the quilted lady jacket in size 2, which I think also fit. But, given the boxy shape of the jacket, the size 2 did not give me a feminine shape as the size 0 jacket, which you can really see when it’s fully buttoned up. Also, the shorter bracelet sleeves were gone in the size 2 since the sleeve length was longer than the size 0. I can’t wear a thin sweater underneath in the size 0, but I can comfortably wear a cami, a silk/poly blouse or a tissue turtleneck underneath.

The velvet cami is a staple in black, I highly recommend it. Unfortunately for me, black is either not offered in tall sizes or it’s been sold out in tall sizes. In any event, I’ll be very pleased with the amber and electric blue velvet camis if they work, sizing-wise.

I love this plaid button-down shirt because of that bib feature. It gives it the most interesting tweak in the ubiquitous plaid shirt. I’m wearing a size 2 in the photo above and I’m waiting for the size 0 to be delivered so I can compare the fit. I’ll report back with which size works better.

So here’s the update, since the size 0 shirt arrived later today. The size 0 was too narrow in the torso part of the shirt where it was a tight fit across the chest. It’s a very tailored fit for this shirt, so I’d try on one size up from your usual. I’m keeping the size 2 shirt and returning the size 0.

This ivory and charcoal buffalo plaid shirt is not fancy but it will become a workhorse staple in the fall and winter wardrobe. The neutral palette will match with everything already in my closet. I love the brown buttons on this shirt, it will look great with my cognac boots. I can’t wait to layer it under my cardigan sweaters. It’s slightly generous or relaxed in its sizing. I’m wearing my usual size 0 and it’s true to size.

A quick footnote, the navy Martie pants I mentioned in my earlier blog post were a success. Sorry for the lack of a picture, but I will post an outfit soon on my Instagram and blog. The overall fit and slight cropped length were spot on for me.

Did you shop the J.Crew sale? Do you have any new favorites?

Have a great day! xx

Banana Republic camel blazer (old, similar here, here & here); Michael Stars turtleneck in black (old, similar here & here); Current/Elliott Stiletto jeans in black; Steve Madden leopard slip-on sneakers (old, similar).

Express leopard faux fur coat (similar here, here & here); Taylor velvet swing dress (similar here & here); Mossimo boots.

There seems to be a recurring theme for my two outfits from Sunday. Camel and black–as classic as a color pairing gets. However, leopard print is the star of the sartorial show and what the eye is always drawn to. For the first outfit, I threw in a little leopard for some interest. For my second look, I threw on a lot of leopard for some fun.

Have you been wearing leopard lately?

Have a great evening!

THE Cyber Monday sale

Stuart Weitzman Lowland over-the-knee boots in walnut suede.

This sale was just too crazy good to pass on. For Cyber Monday, Stuart Weitzman is doing a 40% off sale on selected shoe styles. Free shipping today and no promo code needed. I don’t recall a sale like this on current Stuart Weitzman boots so early in the season at 40% off.

There are a bunch of pumps, boots, sandals and sneaker styles included in the sale, but you know I’ve been obsessed with my Stuart Weitzman over-the-knee boots in black suede and grey suede (which, of course, are not on sale for the Lowland style). I posted details, reviews and pictures here, here and here. I think the walnut suede is the perfect cognac shade for the fall and winter.

Are you shopping the Cyber Monday sales? Let’s have a great week! xx

Madewell buffalo plaid flannel shirt in green/black (old, similar) & skinny jeans (old, similar here & here); Kenneth Cole ‘Cooper’ ankle boots in legno (more sizes here); Burton knit beanie in black (similar here & here).

Free People oversized tunic sweater in wine (sold out, similar); Current/Elliott ‘Stiletto’ jeans in black; Mossimo booties in black; Banana Republic necklace (old, similar).

J.Crew striped turtleneck sweater in navy ivory; Madewell skinny jeans (old, similar here & here); Vans slip-on leather sneakers in navy (old, similar); Banana Republic ‘Margeaux’ sunglasses in mint.

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your loved ones on Thursday! It’s officially the kickoff of the Christmas season and there’s a deluge of Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales. My email inbox was overflowing with sales alerts. I didn’t do *much* shopping but I did take advantage of the online savings at Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, J.Crew and (for Bella).

The last image above features one of the two sweaters I ordered during J.Crew’s recent SHOPMORE event (discussed here). It’s a cashmere and wool blend and it’s really soft and warm due to the dense knit (the sweater did not allow the brisk sea breezes to blow through). The navy, green and ivory are vivid and gorgeous in person. The fit is true to size (I’m wearing a size XS) where the sleeves and bottom hems (slightly longer in the back) are the perfect length and the torso is generous yet very flattering. I really hope J.Crew restocks this sweater because I would love to buy a couple for Christmas gifts. I love this sweater that much. I also hope they offer it in another colorway.

On the other side of the coin, I did not like the oversized bouclĂ© cardigan at all (I didn’t take a picture). Perhaps I should have ordered my usual size of XS instead of the the XXS that I purchased. I was still able to button the cardigan and the sleeves were the right length. When fully buttoned, the cardigan had a very unflattering fit and look. It was sort of awful and it’s definitely going back to J. Crew.

Have you shopped any of the sales? What did you get?

Enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend! xx

40% off at j.crew!

J.Crew started their 40% off you purchase promo for online (with HOLIDAY promo code) and in-store purchases today and it expires on November 27th, which is this Sunday night. The 40% discount has very few exclusions and it applies to mostly all the new arrivals, which are heavy on festive party looks.

Here are my HOLIDAY picks:

J.Crew velvet cami in amber, black and green.

You know I’ve been having major love for velvet lately with shoes and a blazer (which, sadly, my order was recently canceled by Nordstrom). I’m adding to that love with these cute camis. The loose fit and drapey flounce will hide any and all evidence of the holiday gluttony while still being feminine and flirty. The straps are adjustable for a custom fit. It was hard for me to choose which color, so I ordered all three (there is a gorgeous electric blue color too, if you’re interested). I ordered my usual size 0.

J.Crew quilted plaid lady jacket.

I’m obsessed with Stewart plaid, it really suits the holidays. This lady jacket feeds into this obsession and it’s machine washable too. I’m planning to wear this with the velvet camis above for a party outfit but also with my thin cotton turtlenecks for everyday wear. I ordered this jacket in two sizes (0 and 2) to see which fits better.

J.Crew plaid button down.

This plaid is called festive plaid for good reason. The white or ivory background is another inspired plaid for the holidays. What sold me on this plaid shirt was the tuxedo bib detail, how very snazzy! I heeded the online reviews and ordered size 0 (my usual) and size 2 since it runs small for some.

J.Crew buffalo plaid shirt.

This is a lightweight flannel shirt in a classic heather charcoal and ivory buffalo check. It will make for the perfect layer with its neutral colors.

J.Crew Martie pant in navy.

Since the Pixie pant was a recent bust, I’m trying the Martie pant in navy. I’m crossing my fingers for these to work, I need navy pants to match some of my sweaters and button-down shirts.

J.Crew claims this is the first time for this 40% off promo, so are you going to take advantage of the sale to get a new holiday look?

Have a great Tuesday! xx

sequin season

Believe it or not, Thanksgiving is this week. Holiday parties and gatherings will commence soon thereafter and such festivities call for some sparkle. Sequins have always been a go-to favorite for the holidays because it adds drama and life to the party.

Here’s my roundup if you need a sequin refresh for this holiday season. I’ve chosen sequin pieces that are easy to wear and won’t make you feel like a walking disco ball. It’s all stuff you can throw on like a jacket or scarf or a small yet eye-catching detail such as a clutch or shoes. The best part is that I’ve found some really good bargains, so there’s no reason you can get your sparkle on this season.

Sequin bomber jacket in rose gold; Sequin bomber jacket in black; Sequin bomber jacket in black gothic floral.

Sequin clutch in gold (also available in black); Sequin boots in black; Sequin pumps in dusty pink.

Sequin scarf in silver; Sequin beanie in grey (also available in black or ivory); Sequin pants in black.

Sequin jacket in metallic gold; Sequin jacket in black.

Have a great week! xx

review of new j.crew

J.Crew striped turtleneck in hthr camel navy, Pixie pants in navy, oval link necklace in ecru; Steven by Steve Madden Razzi mules in camel suede (more sizes here).

A follow-up review to my earlier J.Crew SHOPMORE sale post. Most of my online order arrived yesterday (I’m still waiting for my two sweaters) and I love the striped turtleneck and long link necklace. The turtleneck is true to size (I’m wearing a size XS) and you have the option to wrap the necklace around twice for a choker length necklace (or more for a chunky bracelet). I am really digging navy and camel together, I think I need to explore this color combination more often.

I am not a fan of the Pixie pants. I ordered my usual size 0 and the pants keep sliding down where I had to keep pulling up the pants. That is not ideal so they are going back to J.Crew. For reference, I folded the bottom hem of the pant legs under to shorten the length. The length was too long, which is bizarre since I measured the shorter inseam and it’s 27″ (as described online) and my true inseam is 28″. My guess is that the pants kept sliding down, which is why the length seemed longer than 27″. Oh well.

Did you purchase anything from J.Crew lately? Any recent faves?

I hope you are enjoying your weekend! xx

black & burgundy

Madewell ultimate leather motorcycle jacket in vintage merlot (old, similar here, here & here); Michael Stars black turtleneck (old, similar here, here & here); Current/Elliott ‘Stiletto’ jeans in black; By FarylRobin for Target ‘Celinda’ flats in wine velvet.

Today’s outfit in burgundy leather and velvet over a simple black backdrop. This is my version of minimalism dressing, ha.

Enjoy your Thursday evening, lovelies!

put a cape on it

C. Wonder buffalo check tie cape (old, similar here, here, here in white/black & here in green/black); Madewell oversized button-down shirt in white (old, similar here, here & here); Paige Denim front-panel leather leggings (old, similar here, here & here); Steven by Steve Madden ‘Maddee’ loafers in leopard (old, similar here, here, here & here); J.Crew Factory jeweled compass necklace in blue/green (old, similar here & here).

An outfit from earlier this week where my cape was perfect for the transitional fall weather. Everything I’m wearing is old, but they are all tried and true classics. You can never go wrong with a white button-down, buffalo check, leather leggings and leopard shoes. Add some fun bling with a statement necklace. Easy chic all the way.

Have a great Thursday! xx

SHOPMORE at j.crew today

Good morning! I wanted to give you a heads up on J.Crew’s online sale event that is for today only. Promo code SHOPMORE will provide the following tiers of savings:

Looks like there are a few exclusions for this event. So, it’s a great time to get the higher ticket items, such as a winter coat or boots, since you get 40% off if you spend $500. Keep in mind the discount will diminish as you spend more over each savings threshold.

Here are my picks:

J.Crew striped turtleneck sweater in navy ivory.

Kelly green and navy is one of my most favorite color combinations. Stripes add a visual pop to this classic preppy color combo. I dig the longer tunic length of this sweater, which I’m planning to wear with leggings and skinny jeans. I ordered my usual size XS.

J.Crew oversized bouclé cardigan in hthr lagoon.

I’ve been on the lookout for an oversized grandpa cardigan with big pockets. I like the blue, it’s different from my usual grey or black sweaters. I heeded the reviews on this and I ordered a size down, an XXS.

J.Crew striped turtleneck in hthr camel navy.

I think the camel and navy together in stripes is both classic and fresh. I ordered my usual size XS.

J.Crew Pixie pants in navy.

I am going to give the beloved Pixie pants a try in navy. People go crazy for this structured legging pant. The navy color will complement the sweaters and turtleneck shown above. I ordered a short 0 since it has the shorter inseam.

J.Crew oval link necklace in ecru.

I love long necklaces and you can wrap this twice around your neck as a choker style necklace.

J.Crew men’s Corgi socks in rosso bulldog.

My husband and I love English Bulldogs. Our Bella reinforces our love for this awesome breed everyday. I thought I’d stick these bulldog socks in my husband’s Christmas stocking this year. He will go nuts over these socks that are made in Wales, UK. There are seven other quirky patterns.

I’d hurry and get on this SHOPMORE event, there was low stock when I ordered the necklace and striped turtleneck sweater earlier this morning.

Have a great Tuesday! xx
