It’s definitely feels like summer, ha! Most of my Madewell sale-on-sale purchases from five days ago (discussed here) arrived and I’m thrilled because everything fits (in my typical Madewell XS size), which is great because they were all final sale items. Even the accessories are rad. The sunglasses, clutch and necklace are cute and well made and executed.

I’m wearing the Madewell ikat dress and pom-pom necklace for my first outfit. The dress is true to size and I tied the straps a little tighter for a better fit at the shoulders. I love this! It also has deep pockets, which is a huge plus. The dress kept me cool and comfortable yesterday in spite of the 90° heat. I think the rich dark color of the dress is a welcome change from the usual pastel or bright colors you see for summer clothing.

The pom-pom necklace matched the dress and added the right amount of boho vibe to the look. Some of the pom-poms have very tiny tassels attached, which is adorable. This is why I’m addicted to Madewell’s jewelry, there is real thought that goes into the cool and quirky designs.

The second outfit called for something minimal in fabric and weight since it’s quite humid today. I was thankful that I ordered this Rivet & Thread plaid tie tank top. It was very light to wear and so adorable. I’m wearing it belted and unbelted but I prefer the belted look since it waist-defining. But it’s nice to have more than one way to wear it. I do wish it was a hair longer but I’m okay with the shorter length because it does not expose my bare midriff. Please keep in mind that I have a longer torso, so if you’re short or normal waisted, the length will be longer on your frame.

I picked up the pink in the plaid with my pink link necklace. Both really complement each other rather well, I love when this happens.

Did you purchase anything from the Madewell sale? Are you still buying stuff from Nordstrom’s anniversary sale?

It’s almost Friday, I can’t wait.

Enjoy your Thursday evening, xx!

Summer whites beat the heat in style and in its utility. It’s so fitting for this scorcher of a day. Plus, I think it complements a deep tan the best.

How are you dressing for this summer heat?

Stay cool and hydrated! xx

extra 40% off sale stuff at madewell

Happy Saturday! Hope you’re keeping cool in the sweltering summer heat.

Promo code EXTRA40 will get you an additional 40% off all sale items at Madewell until 11:59 pm on Monday night, July 25. This sale promotion is also available in Madewell stores. It’s a good time to stock up on those summer essentials and the following are my personal picks:

image

Madewell courier shirtdress in white.

Doesn’t your body temperature drop about 10 degrees by just looking at this crisp white shirtdress? I am a strong advocate for dresses in the summer. It’s quick (one piece dressing that takes 5 seconds) and cool.

image

Madewell tie-strap dress in ikat.

Here’s another dress that looks cool as a cucumber. I like the adjustable tie straps for a truly customized fit.

image

Madewell striped tank dress in black.

Stripes, enough said. Love the low back on this dress, it’s a sexy detail. Also, I learned that there are snaps inside the tank to secure your bra straps from the online reviews (always read the reviews, they can be very helpful).

image

Madewell lace-up tee in navy (Navy has sold out, but ivory is available at full price.)

You know I love a lace-up top, this will be so fresh in one of my favorite colors–navy. I hope it pops back in stock for you if you like the navy. This tee is available in ivory, but at full price.

image

Madewell x Rivet & Thread plaid tie top.

This plaid tank top is cute as a button. You can wear it without the belt or you can use the self-tie belt to show off your waist. The one review says it looks better with the bow in the back. I will play around with it once it’s delivered. I also plan on using other belts in my wardrobe.

image

Madewell playlist sunglasses in dalmation.

I don’t need another pair of sunglasses, but these had such retro charm. I love the black and white marble-like look of the frames. There’s a green frame version that’s on sale too. I really love my green pair from Banana Republic.

image

Madewell pom-pom necklace.

You know I’m a pom-pom lover, but this necklace is a low-key and grown-up approach to the pom-pom. It’s a great length too.

image

Madewell x Proud Mary fringe clutch.

If this clutch looks like it was made by an artisan, that’s because it was! According to Madewell’s website, the clutches were crafted in the African country of Lesotho using yarn from local Angora goats. I’m also digging the graphic design, so modern.

Are you planning to shop Madewell’s EXTRA40 sale? What do you think of my picks?

Enjoy your weekend! xx

my nordstrom anniversary sale picks–round 2

Are you ready for my second round (get caught up on the first round here) of Nordstrom Anniversary Sale picks? The following were items that I didn’t have available at my local Nordstrom store (or items I did not spot in my sweep of the early access tents). Some items have arrived and the rest are on their way. One item is on backorder.

image

Vince sweater in steel.

It’s safe to assume that Vince was the clear favorite for me for this Anniversary Sale. I bought the Oxford shoes and colorblock car coat last week during my visit to Nordstrom. This long drapey sweater is perfect for leggings, skinny jeans or a fitted skirt. It has side zippers that allows for some creative layering underneath. It’s 70% wool and 30% cashmere. I ordered a size XS, my usual size in Vince clothing.

It arrived today! There’s a picture of me wearing it below. I love it, it’s very soft and warm. The zippers on the side is an awesome feature, they add weight and the perfect drape. The fit is true to size and the wool/cashmere knit is substantial but not overly bulky.

image

Vince sweater in black.

It’s the same sweater as the previous grey sweater. You can never go wrong with black, am I right? This is en route!

image

Vince hoodie in black.

I think this the best layering piece I’ve seen in a long time and in 100% cashmere, no less. You can wear this by itself or virtually with anything underneath. I’m thinking a long sleeve tee, shirt/blouse, or a turtleneck. Even over a fitted dress. This is on backorder in my size XS, with an expected ship date of August 5. I’m crossing my fingers I get it and my order won’t get canceled (which has happened to my sister on a jacket she ordered online).

image

Treasure & Bond plaid shirt in black & red sun.

I thought the novelty of a plaid shirt that was sleeveless was too good to pass up. I plan on layering these shirts under the Vince turtleneck sweaters and my cardigans and jackets. I also plan on wearing this by itself, I think it’s very cool tomboy. Something right out of The Outsiders. I ordered a size XS in the black and red shirts. These lovelies are en route to me.

image

SPANX leggings.

I thought I’d give these faux leather leggings a try. They were the only ones online that did not scrunch up at/behind the knees. I wanted a pair of non-workout leggings that I could wear with my Stuart Weitzman over-the-knee boots (another round 1 Anniversary Sale purchase). I ordered a size Small since it was the smallest size available.

The leggings arrived today but the wrong size was delivered, size XL. But I still tried it on to see if I like them–I do. I called Nordstrom’s customer service and they ordered a size S for me. Unfortunately they are on backorder, estimated to ship on August 12.

image

I’m wearing the Vince turtleneck sweater in grey (size XS, my usual size) and the SPANX leggings in the incorrectly shipped size XL (I’m exchanging for a size small).

image

Free People leopard bra.

The fit is true to size and this is a very pretty bra. I’ve been wanting a leopard print bra for some time so I’m very pleased that I’ve got one that was quite reasonable in price.

image

Vince shearling coat.

image

The Vince shearling coat is heavenly. True to size (size XS) and the most cozy thing I own. The hood is generous which is great since it’s lined in sumptuous shearling (actually the entire coat is lined with shearling).

9/2/16 Update: I returned the shearling coat because I’ve decided that I’d rather have a faux fur leopard coat instead.

image

Bony Levy ‘Gianna’ & ‘Marquee’ diamond stacking rings in rose gold.

image

A close-up shot of the three rings. The many glowing online reviews are true, I’m impressed with the workmanship and sparkle of the rose gold and diamond rings. True to size, I’m wearing size 6.

Happy shopping to the non-Nordstrom cardholders–the Anniversary Sale starts in stores tomorrow and online at 12:01 am tonight, Pacific time!

Here are a few recent outfits. The last outfit features a Free People dress that was a recent birthday gift from my sister. It’s perfect for the summer heat since it’s gauzy and airy. But, add a thin turtleneck underneath (or a cozy vest on top) and zip up some over-the-knee boots, you’re set for a fall outfit that’s boho chic.

Also, the Bony Levy stacking rings in rose gold in my last outfit are a recent purchase from Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale. I’m so in love with these delicate and sparkly rings! There’s a short video on my Instagram feed that shows a close-up view of the three Bony Levy rings (see it here).

I will provide a review of my round two of #nsale picks shortly. I just got everything in my order delivered, so please check back.

Happy Hump Day, xx!

my nordstrom anniversary sale picks

Good morning! Apologies for the delayed follow-up post. Yesterday was such a long day running around in general, driving all over the place, that I inadvertently deleted my blog draft in my sleepy stupor last night. So, here’s take two on my personal picks/purchases from the sale. Just in time for the first day of early access for Nordstrom cardholders!

image

Stuart Weitzman Hilo over-the-knee boots in black suede.

These over-the-knee boots are amazing in black suede, the fit is perfect (I took my usual size 8). They can be left all the way up or you can fold over the top for another look or to make the shaft shorter. For reference, my legs are short at a 28-28.5″ inseam. I measured the boots where the shaft is 26″ and the suede facing inside the top of the boot is 9.5″ if you wanted to cuff the boot.

Stuart Weitzman boots like these never seem to go on sale, especially in black. I finally found my over-the-knee boots, I’m so excited to wear them over my skinny jeans and leggings as well as under my sweater dresses.

Update: I ended up returning the Hilo boots to Nordstrom. I decided they were too high for my shorter legs and looked like I was wearing black suede pants under my dresses. It looked really odd. The good news is that I subsequently purchased Stuart Weitzman Lowland over-the-knee boots (on sale) and I couldn’t be happier with the Lowland boots. The height and fit are perfect for me.

image

Pedro Garcia Persis sandal in fox suede.

The image in the right is true to the actual greige color of the sandal, more grey than beige/taupe. I was planning to get this in black, but the fox color was beautiful in person and really showcased the many details and the luxe texture of the suede.

image

Paul Green Jojo loafer in bordeaux patent.

These were an in-store discovery, I loved the bordeaux color and the thicker sole won me over. They are light in weight too. They run big so I sized down one half size, so I bought a size 7.5 (I’m a size 8 usually). These will go with nearly everything in my casual wardrobe but I’m digging the Nordstrom stock photos that pair cropped jeans and pants with this loafer. It’s got that masculine or tomboy feel.

image

Vince Alanis oxford in black leather.

I was very intrigued when I spotted these oxfords in my catalog. Again, the thick sole and the contrasting details are what drew me in. They are true to size for me although they are a touch narrow in the toe box but it’s very slight. These will look so smart with my Topshop cropped trousers.

image

Ugg Aira knit slipper in grey knit.

I saw these Ugg slippers in the catalog and thought they were cute but not worth the sales price. Then I spotted the slippers in the store and naively tried them on. Heaven in a slipper. I rationalized that I wear slippers constantly at home (no outside shoes in the house) and burn through cheap slippers at a ridiculous rate of speed. So, I will try out the high quality Uggs.

The sizing is your typical Ugg size (runs very big), I got a size 6. But I plan to exchange them for a size 7, the length is not long enough in the size 6.

Update: I ended up returning the Ugg slippers. I’d rather spend the money elsewhere.

image

Tom Ford Solange sunglasses in pale gold/ivory/brown lenses.

At the present time, the Solange style are not available online (I saw it online about 3 hours ago). I’ve always wanted a pair of Tom Ford sunglasses but never got around to trying them on in a store (online shopping is my method). Plus, the regular price on his sunglasses (as is everything else Tom Ford) is very high. The ivory frames and oversized lenses are very 70’s disco, something that Sharon Stone’s character in Casino would wear. They are lightweight. I feel like Jackie O in these.

Here are two other Tom Ford sunglass styles that are included in the Anniversary Sale: Alicia and Abbey. I remember another Tom Ford style at the store but it’s currently unavailable online. It’s the cross-cross design for the frames that Tom Ford is known for.

image

Butter London Wanderlust 6-piece nail polish set & Sisley Paris Spa-To-Go set.

Butter London is a fave and I really liked all six colors, which is rare when it comes to these beauty sets. The price was very reasonable too.

Sisley-Paris was an in-store discovery, a company rep was there explaining the virtues of this set. In-home facials are easy and much cheaper than one facial at a spa. He said the set should last for six months for facials. I’ve never used Sisley-Paris products before. Not sure if I want to keep it only because I already have a stockpile of skincare products waiting to be used. So, it’s a return to Nordstrom for me.

image

Hanky Panky low-rise cross-dye thongs & low-rise thong.

These are my #1 favorites and I usually stock up during the Anniversary Sale. I got four pairs because it’s 4/$54. I also typically stock up on my favorite bra, the Natori Feathers bra, but I’m good until next year.

image

Vince colorblock car coat & Frame Denim Le High Straight Jeans in Carroll wash.

Here’s a future fall/winter outfit with my new Vince car coat, which really is a plush long cardigan, and jeans. This is my second Vince car coat and they are surprisingly warm–super cozy. The sizing is true to size but with a generous fit, I’m wearing a size XS.

These jeans are beyond, I’m in love the high-low hem. Frame Denim was on my premium denim wishlist, so I’m thrilled Nordstrom added this brand for their Anniversary Sale. The fit is true to size, I’m wearing a size 25 waist.

So, that’s it for now. I placed an online order early this morning for a few more things that I wanted to check out in the store yesterday but were not available. I will post about it in the next few days, hopefully my order will be delivered quickly.

What did you score at the #nsale? I’d love to hear about your new finds. 🙂

Nordstrom early access pre-shop today!

image

Nordstrom is doing something new for this year’s Anniversary Sale, Level 4 Nordstrom cardholders get to shop the sale a day earlier than everybody else, even Early Access which starts tomorrow, July 14.

It’s called the Early Access Pre-Shop and it’s only available in stores (not online, which is my preferred shopping method). Nordstrom mailed me the ticket above, which needs to be presented at the store. I also made an appointment with my favorite Nordstrom salesperson later today and I provided him with my list of items that my husband and I loved from the catalog.

I don’t know how crazy it will be at Nordstrom, but if I can manage to snap pics of cute stuff around the store (assuming they’re still available), I will post the images and my thoughts on the blog. So, please check back if you’re interested in my picks. I will likely post pics on my Instagram feed too. So far, I’m considering shoes (Pedro Garcia & Vince), boots (Stuart Weitzman) and Zella workout tanks (I know, my list is short while my husband lucked out with all the fantastic offerings for men this year). My hope is that the store will have some cool women’s items that were MIA from the catalog.

Good night! xx

The above look was from the weekend where varying shades of blue made for a super easy and comfortable outfit.

I wanted to alert you to the two Zella items that were marked down in price online at Nordstrom. I ordered the shorts and they fit true to size (a size XS for me) and the striped pattern in the neutral palette is versatile with many other colors. I just ordered the sports bra in a size Small (my usual sports bra size), so I can’t provide a review just yet. Love that cobalt shade of blue and the back detail is really eye-catching.

Speaking of Nordstrom, are you planning to shop the Anniversary Sale this month? They added an early access pre-shop day for Level 4 cardholders set for this Wednesday, July 13. It’s an in-store only event. Yours truly has her golden ticket and I’m planning to check it out. I wasn’t really impressed with the offerings in the catalog, but I’m hoping that there’s something fabulous.

Happy Monday! xx

strappy cami & strapless bra review

Topshop palm print double strap v-front cami (similar here, here & here); J.Crew 4″ chino short in storm grey; GAP cross strap leather slides in true black; Maui Jim ‘Nalani’ sunglasses in tokyo tortoise.

The dog days of summer are here and I’m keeping my cool in a strappy camisole, shorts and slide sandals. This was yesterday’s outfit after being in the car for 7+ hours. The shorts were wrinkled but the polyester camisole was a wrinkle-free champion. I purchased the Topshop camisole on clearance from Nordstrom and it has since sold out online. It’s still available online at the Topshop US website, which I’ve provided a link above. I took my normal Topshop size of US 4 (which fits like a size 0-2) and it fits me perfectly. Fortunately, Nordstrom has added more prints in these double strap camisoles (links provided above). I love the strappy detail in the back, it adds a little drama to your exit.

I also bought the two strapless bras shown above. I really needed to find smaller sized strapless bras and I am extremely pleased with both bras, although I’ve worn the Wacoal bra more often. The Wacoal comes with straps, which you can configure in many ways. I love the light feel of this bra, it’s not padded and the underwire is barely detectable in feel. The silicone on the inside of the bra ensures that it stays put, this bra does not budge with normal activity.

The Free People bra is just so pretty (love the crisscross back detail) but it offers very minimal support with only boning on the sides. I took a size XS and it fits well, although I have read online reviews to size down since it may stretch out slightly over the course of a long day.

7/20/16 Update: I returned the Free People bra since I wanted more support. Instead, I got another Wacoal ‘Halo’ strapless bra in black. As you can tell, I’m a new fan of this bra.

I’m wearing the Wacoal bra underneath my camisole in case you were wondering and it did not show or peek out. Super comfortable and so light to wear in the 90 degree heat.

Lastly, I wanted to mention my Maui Jim sunglasses. I normally don’t wear them for fun, they are my sunglasses for driving. Maui Jim’s polarized lenses are the best I’ve ever worn, I can’t drive without them now. No blinding sun glare and the lenses make for a crisp line of vision. I also like the wide arms or temples of the sunglasses, they help block out more sun than wire versions. They are a holy grail item for me.

Hope you are enjoying your July! TGIF!
