I finally received my new cotton fisherman sweater from L.L. Bean that was backordered for about a month. It was well worth the wait, the sweater is very nicely done. It’s a thick knit and is 100% cotton (zero itchy factor). Machine washable (yes!). I really like the neckline of this sweater, it’s slightly higher than most crew necks (so toasty) but definitely not a mock turtleneck. The only minor issue is that I wish it was an inch longer in the torso, but I have a longer torso. Yet, the length is fine as is, I can easily remedy any unintentional sliver of midriff flashing by wearing a cami underneath (it’s too cold now not to layer anyway, as I quickly discovered while taking the pics above sans coat, brrr). Yet, the length is perfect to show off your favorite belt, come to think of it.

I ordered a size small (I’m usually a medium) and it’s the perfect size for me in the shoulders, torso and sleeve length. I’ve read some of the online reviews and if you want a more generous fit, just order a larger size (perhaps your normal size). L.L. Bean is running a Black Friday promotion online, 10% off site-wide (this rarely happens) and a $10 gift card with a purchase of $50 or more. Free shipping is a given.

This fisherman sweater would be a great gift for any woman in your life, including yourself. It’s an iconic classic that will never go out of style. I can easily see this with a preppy outfit, or boho if you wear it over a shirtdress or maxi dress, or tough girl chic with leather leggings and high heels.

Do you wear fisherman knit sweaters? If so, please share how you style it. xx

it’s all about Black Friday

How was your Thanksgiving? Hope it was a day filled with loved ones and good eats! We went to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade yesterday morning, it was so much fun to see it up close and personal. Here are some Instagram pics of my sister and me as well as several of my favorite balloons (you can find me at Valleyoftheshoes):

So, Black Friday is finally here. Are you ready for the savings? Here are a few wish list gift ideas that will be sure to please:

Clinique cleansing value set. I’ve heard nothing but raves about the new Clinique cleansing brush, it gives the Clarisonic a run for it’s money. Starting with a super clean face will help all of your facial products work better. I don’t know about you, but I spend a pretty penny on all of my anti-aging serums, toners, moisturizers, etc. Anything to make them more effective is a huge plus. The brush is the regular full-sized brush and it comes with travel sizes of the cleanser, toner and moisturizer.

Sorel Joan of Arctic boots. Yesterday, I was comfortable being outdoors for 4+ hours. Except for my feet. They were freezing. I ordered these boots because my feet did not warm up until today. Bloomingdale’s had a 15% promo code yesterday (that expired today unfortunately), but they will deduct $25 off your $200 order and Sorel boots are not excluded (unlike other retailers, looking at you Shopbop, J.Crew and Madewell).

11/30/14 UPDATE: Bloomingdale’s started their Cyber Monday 25% off selected merchandise today (expires tomorrow night) and these boots are now 25% off. This is major! I’d check out their website to see if the 25% discount applies to a brand that’s normally excluded from most retailers’ discount promos. They have some premium designer brands on sale, like Burberry, but the 25% may or may not apply (look for Cyber Monday text in the description to get that promo).

Lotuff Leather wallet. I recently purchased a Lotuff Leather wallet for my husband. He loves it, says it’s the nicest wallet he’s ever had. He finds it functional and stylish. Most importantly, he loves the feel of this premium leather and it’s so comfortable in his pants pocket. Lotuff Leather is an American company and all of their leather goods are made in the USA. This wallet is all leather, except for thread. No fabric or plastic is to be found anywhere, it’s truly made to last and enjoy for many years to come.

I’m over this cold weather already. Poor Buffalo, NY, with 7 feet of snow this week (!!). I hope you’re safe and warm wherever you are.

This cardigan is the best for keeping the chills away. You can change the neckline by buttoning or unbuttoning the 3 buttons. The brocade jeans add some fun to the mix.

Happy Friday!

Today was a balmy day compared to the last 2 arctic-like days, so I took advantage by wearing my favorite oversized wool blazer and my neon sneakers. I still wore a chunky knit sweater with a cotton tank top underneath, as layers are essential this time of year.

Speaking of layers, I got a haircut yesterday. I lost some of my digital wave texture at the ends but it was worth it, my hair was way too long.

Can you believe it’s going to be Thanksgiving a week from today? omg

cape + long gloves =

My new purchase today!

This past weekend, I wore a chunky knit cardigan sweater (over a long-sleeve tee) that had kinda sorta dolman/drop shoulder sleeves and they were cuffed. It was too damn cold to go sans a winter coat, but the sleeves on the sweater ended up bunched up in my armpits because the sleeves on the winter coat were too narrow for the sweater underneath. This annoying issue pops up whenever the shirt, sweater, cardigan, etc. has dolman/batwing/drop shoulder sleeves (they are ubiquitous now, ugh) or it’s just too bulky underneath with all the multiple layers going on. I couldn’t put my arms down when wearing my coat or really move around comfortably, ever have this problem?

So, I went on a semi-search online for an outerwear cape. I didn’t really see anything I liked until I came across this buffalo check wool number from C. Wonder. The music stopped for this one (more like a record screech), the cheerful red and black buffalo check just screamed, “Buy me!” I also liked the tie at the waist so I won’t look like I’m a huge shapeless mushroom that walked out of the house with a blanket around my shoulders. Waist definition is key for looks but also to keep the freezing gusts of wind from blowing up into the cape. I’m digging the buckle tab at the neck on this cape, it makes it sporty if capes skewed sporty. Do you like how I rationalized the many reasons for buying this? It basically boiled down to how cute is this cape for the holidays??? The cuteness meter was on overload.

Wool Buffalo Check Tie Cape

I naturally had to order long leather gloves to wear with this cape since little T Rex arms would be popping out of the cape, so I ordered this pair from C. Wonder. It’s lined in 100% cashmere and get this, it has conductive fingers so I can use my iPhone without having to take my gloves off.

Long Leather Gloves

Oh, and I did mention they’re doing a 30% off Friends and Family promo on everything (until 11/25, I believe)??

Are you wearing capes? Any good tips for this cape newbie? Stay warm, xx.

I’m cranking the heat and I’m still freezing just a little. The Vinyasa scarf really helps though by keeping the chill away and the bright neon pink stripes add some cheerfulness.

today’s discovery: BRFS is online!

In my search for more inexpensive leopard sweater options for yesterday’s post, I realized that one of my favorite retailers, Banana Republic Factory Store, is now available online (finally)! Their website doesn’t offer shoes (I really love their wedge sandals) or jewelry (they have great pieces), but you can also shop for petite sizes and men’s clothing in addition to their women’s clothing and accessories online. Free shipping for over $50 orders and free returns by mail (I hope they add free returns at store locations too).

They have some great deals on some of their items, some more than 50% off! Look under The Real Deal, under Shops on the left hand tabs.

Here are my picks (it was hard to stop at 8 items, and I think most of them are on sale):

imageimage

Leopard sweater & Leopard jacket.

imageimage

Funnel-neck jacket (for $19.99, whoa) & Wool moto jacket.

imageimage

Crosshatch cape & Military plaid shirt.

imageimage

Camo dress & Bucket bag.

What do you think of BRFS? Like my picks?

Have a great weekend! xx

It’s a cold one today! Breaking out the cashmere to keep warm. I had some fun bringing leopard and tiger’s eye together with my outfit. I really like the leopard print with my white jeans.

Did you break out the sweaters and boots today? Keep warm, xx.

It’s in the upper 60’s today and I’m loving it. It’s probably the last short-sleeve day this year since they are predicting near freezing temps for the remainder of the week. This sequin tee is surprisingly warmer than it looks, I guess the heavier weight of the all over sequins make for an additional layer of sorts. It’s too warm for me to wear during the dog days of the summer (fret not, that’s what sequin tanks are for!). But it’s the most perfect layer for now and through the winter season. You can’t beat the natural drape of this tee, it skims over all the trouble spots and makes them non-existent. It certainly comes in handy for those holiday gatherings, when all of a sudden your designated party dresses no longer zip up due to the constant food grazing and wine/spirits sipping. Sound familiar? So, you simply pair this tee with your favorite party pants/skirt and little jacket/cardi. Done and done.

Do you have any reliable back-up clothing/accessory items that save the day?

This blazer coat from Madewell is one of my favorite jackets. Why you ask? Because I feel tall and slim in it, which is no easy feat (especially after a long weekend filled with lots of food and wine). Maybe that’s why Suze Orman favors these blazer coats when giving her presentations, you look like a boss. Joking aside, I feel really good wearing this. I actually fell in love with a J.Crew tux blazer coat I saw in a Christmas TV commercial a year or two ago, but this version is much better because it can go dressy or casual.

It’s true to size for me, although the sleeves are fitted so I can’t wear a bulky layer underneath. There’s a bit of stretch in the twill fabric, which feels nice and comfortable. I think this will be a great topper for a cocktail dress in the evenings. Just throw on a silky metallic scarf and grab a clutch, your outfit is done in 3 clicks.

What do you think of blazer coats?
