juno: a goddess of a shoe

Bella Freud 1970 sweater; RACHEL Rachel Roy button-front denim skirt; Topshop ‘Juno’ ballet pumps in gold.

My new shoes are here! I love how they are retro and modern at the same time. I can’t wait to wear these with my cropped flares. I also really like the late 60’s/early 70’s vibe (confirmed by my sweater, ha) with the button-front denim skirt–very Jane Birkin or Alexa Chung. I ordered a size 8.5 (only half sizes are available for Topshop shoes) and they are slightly big. But, I’d rather have them a little bit bigger than too small. I will probably put an insert in the shoe for a snugger fit. The leather is very soft, like an actual slipper, and they are made in Spain (I love this).

Speaking of the button-front denim skirt, I got the one I’m wearing as a Christmas gift. It’s amazing and the perfect fit, flare and length. It’s true to size (size 0). It’s a very flattering piece, I’m so happy with it.

Are you wearing block heels? Happy Wednesday to you! xx

Great review on the gold shoe and glad it worked out! They dont seem too garish looking in real life? It photographs so nicely for sure. I used to have a golden sandal years ago and it was very ‘gold’….lol. And since i am a size 7, i should get next size up 7.5?

Love, love that red sweater (dang, i am showing my age….lol)! It’s so fun and just sooooo retro….but ouch, the price! LOL it fits you very well….not bulky or too boxy and great length too….frames you very well.

you look adorable here, my dear (i am so sorry, i dont know your name!)! always enjoy reading your posts. you keep warm! i dont know you still manage to look cute in MA in spite of the cold…. i would look like a polar bear with bundles of layers cause i wouldnt care! I cant tolerate the cold as much as i used to. lol Have a good week. 😀

Happy lunar new year, Madie! 🎋. Thank you so much for your thoughtful comments!

The gold is a nice metallic gold, not a super flashy disco gold (I know what you mean by very gold). I wouldn’t say it’s a muted gold, but it really fits the glove leather texture. The sizing issue is tricky, I tried on the pumps with tights but the heels of my feet kept popping out of the shoes, which means they are too big. So, I ordered the 7.5 to compare it with the 8.5 I already have. That’s the one gripe I have with Topshop shoes, they only come in half sizes. I know a size 8 shoe would be perfect since that is my true shoe size. I will report back on this once I get the 7.5 pair delivered. I will say that for my Topshop Mistic ankle boots, I bought a 7.5 and a 8.5 and again, the 8.5 was too big when I tried it on with my thick opaque tights. I would suggest buying 2 pairs, sizing up and down, to see which fits better and return the worse fit of the two. Nordstrom does free shipping and free returns so there’s no risk.

Bella Freud sweaters are ridiculously priced, I agree. I constantly scour websites for her sweaters to go on clearance and see if I can get a promo code on top of that. I mentioned it in yesterday’s blog post but I bought the 1970 sweater on sale and then got an additional 10% off promo code for signing up for Madison Los Angeles (the online retailer) emails. It was still pricey but much less than half of the original price. I just got another sweater (the Glam sweater) from Net-a-Porter that was on clearance and they were doing an additional 20% promo on clearance items.

I’m not in MA but I’m relatively nearby and it’s been seriously cold lately. I love my new parka from J.Crew, that keeps me warm like you would not believe.

Have a great Thursday and a wonderful Valentine’s Day weekend! Thanks again! xo

Hi there! Thank you for your reply! And a happy new year of Monkey to you too! Did you and hubby go out to celebrate? Or did you make something at home? For some reason, i’ve got a crazy craving for some good dim sum…..been yrs since I went to a dim sum. 🙂

yea, sounds like a good idea to try on another size shoe. I was also thinking leather stretches with time so if it is already large to begin with, it will be even more larger/longer as you use it more (plus it getting wet accidently etc).. Update us on the smaller size you got. i think it should fit you better. 🙂

lol! i dont know for some reason I thought you lived in MA. I guess it was the pic with your hubby and you being in an ivy league? sporting get-together….dont remember the sport (lacrosse?), but i remember the pics. lol Sorry about that. 🙂

I lived a few yrs up in MI.but i’ve lived mostly the south or west coast US all my life. Gosh, did i dress up wrong there in MI for the winter…. I’d wear a wool coat with 3-4 random layers underneath. Talk about being uncomfy and chilly. lol Want a good laugh… i would just wear fleece gloves and hat from old navy thinking that was the right thing to do….yea, i was suffering up there in the cold esp. since i refuse to drive and walked to/fro work. LOL Now I look back and realize, no wonder not many people wear wool coat in Jan. lol. The things we learn. 🙂

You and hubby have a happy Valentines day and weekend! 😀

I love dim sum too and it’s been too long since I’ve had it. My husband was away for work so I just enjoyed our leftovers from Super Bowl Sunday. It was Mexican themed, lol.

I will certainly update with how the smaller size Juno shoe worked out (or not). I predict that I will keep the 7.5 though.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot we attended the Harvard-Yale Regatta last year. Back when it was warm, omg it’s so cold now. I don’t know how people in the Midwest deal with such frigid winters every year. Like you, it’s getting harder to tolerate the cold as I grow older. I haven’t worn my wool coats in so long, I wear my puffer coat/jacket as soon as the temps drop. Your recollection about Old Navy fleece with a wool coat in Michigan did make me laugh, ha!

Thank you so much and I hope you enjoy your weekend too! Happy Friday to you! 💘💖
